Been job hunting for some time and from what I see it is too competitive out there. From what I noticed is, that I have been rejected outright by a recruiter as they mention their clients want Chinese only due to their environment although I can speak Cantonese and a little Mandarin. Another reason is due to my age. Had a chat with a recruiter earlier. After a while, I received a call from the recruiter asking about my age as their client wanted to know. Told them, after a few hours, received an email that I am not being considered. From the posting in LinkedIn, a lot of people posting encouraging stories on hiring and etc but is that a reality or fantasy? #jobopportunities #employment #recruitment

I bombed an interview the day an unarmed black teenager was shot and killed. I remember that morning seeing the video of 15 year old Ma’Khia Bryant. It tore me up. I wasn’t able to prepare for my interview like I normally am. I felt sad and depressed in contrast to my usual bright and bubbly personality. I was also super unproductive on my job that day. I thought about my 15 year old little sister and mourned for how her family must feel. I inevitably bombed the interview, and let the recruiter know the headspace I was in afterward. They had no idea about the shooting, and she didn’t consider it regarding the interview. They weren’t aware and the profile of the victim didn’t match any of their family, friends, or peers. I could not imagine what anyone in Israel or connected to the Israel/Palestine conflict is going through right now. But I do know that my job is to be aware, kind, patient, and empathetic. I encourage everyone to take some time today to read up on the conflict if you’re unaware. Give supportive thoughts, prayers, and love to everyone affected and trying to stay out of harms way. If you’re in a position of power, extend grace to all of your teammates. They need it extra right now. I stand with freedom. I stand with peace. I often get referral messages along the lines of - "I have a friend/ spouse /sibling looking for ABC position. Can you let me know if something comes up?" OR " I have a friend/ spouse /sibling looking for ABC position. Can I connect you two and you can help if any relevant opportunity comes up?" Which approach do you think will work best when the recruiter does come across a relevant position? The latter of course. Recruiters remember people, profiles and skillsets; they are less likely to remember that someone had a cousin who may or may not be a fit for the role they are hiring for; especially while handling a time-sensitive recruit. Also given the time it takes for the person to reach out and get the said cousin involved; there may be other applicants under consideration. So the next time you want to help a friend by referring them to a recruiter, do them a favour, make the introductions and remove yourself from the process. This will ensure their profile is handled and processed in a timely manner. #Talentacqusition #Referrals #Recruitment

I speak to at least 2-3 people every week who are #laidoff in the last 6 months. Despite the market being very competitive, Below are the common problems I notice which are pulling them back from getting their next job. 1. They start applying for jobs as soon as they got #laidoff !! (Instead prepare yourself for the interview and then apply for the jobs) 2. Most have one resume and use it to apply for all the opportunities. (Instead you can have a few variations of your resume). 3. Most apply for a lot of jobs and when they don't get any calls, they will stop applying for sometime. (Instead be consistent in applying) 4. Very common mistake that I have seen very commonly is that most are not interview ready. They give a few interviews in the beginning where they get rejected and later they don't call. What's important to you in your job? Is it working from home a few days a week? Is it having some friendly competition when it comes to sales? Is it having a manager that trusts you to do your job but is also there to support you?
