As part of our ongoing pro-bono consulting initiative, "Pop-Up" Consulting, last week the Q5 team supported Wildlife Victoria to define their organisational values. Thanks to Daniel Farley and Lisa Palma and the broader team for having us; Wildlife Victoria do instrumental work in protecting our Australian wildlife, and it was really rewarding to play a very small role in supporting the team to continue to do the important work that they do. Our purpose at Q5 is all about "building healthier organisations to propel people, economies and society forward", our pop-up consulting initiative is a small way in which we try and help push society forward, through building better organisations. #Q5 #managementconsulting #values

95% of young farmers in the UK say poor mental health is the biggest hidden danger in the industry. The pressure and the struggle is real and for some it is constant. When your livelihood depends on the weather, growing things in flooded or dessert like conditions, caring for livestock and trying to keep them alive when disease like bird flu and bad luck can mean life and death of your beloved animals. It is really hard to see on the news super markets importing food from abroad from places that don’t have the rules we do, to ensure the food you eat is the safest and to the highest welfare. It’s hard to see stories for “Eat less meat” to save the planet where here in the UK our grass based systems actually help the planet. Its hard when the word profit seems to be a dirty and foreign word at grass root level. It’s hard to get up early in the dark and the wet and wind, it’s hard to see a bright future when no one seems to want what we produce. It’s hard that no one seems to understand farms produce FOOD! Appreciation and support are sometimes more important than price, but at farm gate we need to understand the lack of support to Farmer’s. The lack of profit and the level of dept being managed. With mental health charities under so much pressure they are also worried about our future. The industry is facing so much uncertainty. It is not an exaggeration to say there are a lot of people, farmers their families and those that support them like vets, feed merchants, sales agents, even the counter girl in village shop, are for some the only people we see, accidentally becoming councillors and support workers. We are a community mostly living remotely from others. Let’s stick together ask your neighbours if they are ok. Call by or get on the phone. . "95% of young farmers in the UK say poor #mentalhealth is the biggest hidden danger in the industry" #MindYourHead 💛 This shocking statistic underscores a harsh reality: mental health issues within the agricultural community are felt everywhere and are deeply concerning. As we grapple with the many challenges that come with farming, from unpredictable weather patterns, policy changes, and market fluctuations, it's clear that the impact on mental well-being cannot be ignored. This is not a problem we can afford to sweep under the rug. When 95% of young voices within our industry identify poor mental health as a pressing issue, it's time for action. 🚫 We cannot continue to overlook the struggles of our farming community. 🚫We cannot turn a blind eye to the silent battles being fought behind closed doors. It's time to break the stigma surrounding mental health in agriculture and help create a culture of support, understanding, and empathy. So, what are we going to do about it? ✅ We must start by fostering open and honest conversations about mental health within our communities. ✅ We need to create moments and spaces where individuals feel comfortable sharing their struggles without fear of judgment or stigma. ✅ We need to normalise discussions around mental well-being, so we can begin to break down the barriers that prevent people from seeking the help they need. 👩⚕️ Access to mental health resources and support services is vital and there are some fantastic organisations working to make things better. But it's the actions each of us take as individuals that are most important. We must come together as a community to offer support and solidarity to those who are struggling. ☕ Whether it's checking in on a neighbour 👂 Lending a listening ear 🗣 or simply offering a kind word of encouragement, every gesture counts.
