Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has made a surprising change to its “Possibilities Summit” for Black college students: It’s opened the program to White students. At Bank of America Corp., certain internal programs that used to focus on women and minorities have been broadened to include everyone. And at Bank of New York Mellon Corp., executives are being urged to reconsider hard metrics for workforce diversity. Lose them, lawyers have advised. There are days when I feel like I have the best job in the world. Today was one of those days. I had the absolute pleasure of organising an introduction to Barclays Inspire panel event for the South West. Inspire is our ERG for socioeconomic diversity It was such an important conversation from various areas of the bank. Some of the key points: ✅ Often the difference between a graduate and an apprentice is their starting point/background. Are they being treated the same? ✅ The challenges of coming from a low socioeconomic background can’t be seen so we need a culture that enables people to feel comfortable. ✅ If you’ve been dealt a tough hand, learn how to use it as your determination to succeed. ✅ We need leaders to show their vulnerabilities to help ours feel normal. A much needed discussion ✨ As part of our lineup of #Blackhistorymonth celebrations, we chose to salute some of our sisters during an internal fireside career chat moderated by our Chief Strategic Transformation and Change Officer Rupy Malizia. Judging by my face and hand gesture, we touched on a really juicy topic during this segment of the session 😂 It was an honor to be part of the discussion panel and I was joined on stage by the awesome Marisa Nzekwe and Rebekah O Laniyan, MCBI Chartered Banker, MSc, BA who inspired me so much. We were open, vulnerable, reflected on our successes, dropped some gems and laughed along the way as we explored our career journeys to date. Some of the points we touched on included: 💡 Understanding the difference between mentorship and sponsorship and their purposes 💡 The importance of self-advocacy 💡 The power or your network...your network is your net-worth 💡 The desire Black women have to lean more into their softer side as opposed to having to be strong, something many of us have had to do in order to overcome life's obstacles in the unequal world we live in 💡The importance of staying in control of your narrative A huge thank you to the HSBC Innovation Banking Racial Equity ERG for making this in-person event happen, and to all who attended. Great Article! Truist a regional bank in the Southeast, increased its representation of racially and ethnically diverse senior leaders—senior vice president and above—from 12% to 15% in just two years.   While the increase might appear small, the jump exceeds industry norms. Financial services remain a fickle industry, and leadership diversity has remained relatively stagnant over the past several years. As of 2020, Black and Hispanic employees at the senior level collectively accounted for 7% of employees, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. And Asian senior-level employees accounted for 7%. I spoke to Truist’s chief inclusion and diversity officer, Dominica Groom, to understand the bank’s approach to improving representation at the top. #leadership #inclusion #financialservices #leaders #diversity #bank
