Delighted to say that we've been appointed by The Fashion Minority Alliance to conduct in-depth research into the state of diversity, equity and inclusion in the fashion industry.   The research will assess the efforts of the fashion industry to achieve long-lasting cultural shifts towards an equitable, inclusive work environment. The study will look at representation of minority groups within the fashion industry, specifically exploring how companies are drawing in applicants from minority backgrounds, their ability to retain minority employees, and whether they are enabling their progression within organisations and the wider industry relative to non-minority employees. As part of the research, Blurred will be using its expertise in ESGP (ESG + Purpose) to explore the gaps between intention and performance when it comes to minority representation. The final report will be published later in 2023.   The Fashion Minority Alliance is a non-profit organisation that aims to promote diversity and inclusivity across the fashion and beauty industry. FMA works with stakeholders to encourage and support meaningful change for BIPOC and Historically Marginalised talent. Fast fashion disempowers women. Sustainable, ethical apparel supports them. Around the globe, women dominate the workforce of the garment factory industry. Unfortunately, the working environment for many of them includes pervasively low wages, untenable hours, sexual harassment and violence and hazardous health conditions. Most managers in factories are men who hire women with a widespread belief that women are more docile and are willing to work longer hours for little pay. In essence cheap clothes mentally and physically exploit women and engulf generations of women into a cycle of poverty. At Remake, we hope to inspire all women within the fashion industry to stretch their advocacy muscles and take part in our global movement to achieve tangible change. This is the work we do every single day, and our Remake community propels us forward."

Yesterday, Smart Works Chair of the Board of Trustees, Julietta Dexter took to the stage at the London Climate Action Week. 💙🌍 With the spotlight firmly on sustainable fashion, Julietta discussed how Smart Works uses fashion as a force for good – creating a circular journey for high-quality donated clothes whilst also giving confidence to thousands of women every year. “Last month alone saw Smart Works dress more than 850 women across the UK. That simply wouldn’t have been possible without the 4,691 items of clothing that were kindly donated to us from brands and individuals. As a society, so many of us overconsume fashion. Fashion, which can sometimes be seen as frivolous, or even superfluous. But we know that good clothing can truly make a difference – empowering women to get into the workplace and transforming lives. So we’re encouraging everyone to think about their wardrobes and make the right choices to help those who might need a hand up. If you’re thinking about your clothing decisions, think of Smart Works. We’re committed to supporting 10,000 women this year but we need your donated clothing to reach that goal.
