Brilliant podcast on Internal Family Systems.
What is this? 🤔🤔🤔
This is a modality based on the premise that we have “parts” of ourselves that were formed as survival mechanisms to cope with traumatic experiences. Including intergenerational trauma.
The problem becomes when we are no longer in the stressful situations they can work against us. But within a trusting therapeutic relationship where there is no shame, these “parts” or “ families of parts”,
Integration and acceptance can occur.
In art therapy, often the “parts” appear in the image, and we can talk to the image and this provides a safer and less intimidating way to communicate.
Our “parts” protect us and we need to look after them, just like they looked after us.

Have you checked out our LifeSpeak Inc. podcast? Our latest episode features Owen O'Kane, an experienced Psychotherapist and author. He shares techniques that we can all be doing in our day to manage better in tough times. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/ejtqyF_F
O'Kane mentions we fall into unhealthful thinking patterns or thinking traps such as self-criticism or constant doubt or catastrophic thoughts. He explains therapy shouldn't be a passive process. Essentially, its an overhaul of your life and your thinking. He encourages clients to get out and engage in life, process trauma - be brave enough to go where the struggle is because that's where you'll get the greatest outcomes. Step by step, day by day, starting with 10 minutes a day with some self-therapy.
I personally took so much from this podcast and I hope you'll take some time to listen and start your 2024 off with some new tips to get through your days with less thinking traps.

🎙 Reflecting on a powerful and enriching discussion with Katherine Lewis on the "Stuck In My Mind Podcast." Our conversation delved into breaking patterns, trauma healing, and creating opportunities. Here are the key takeaways from our episode:
- Embrace the Journey: Katherine Lewis emphasizes breaking overwhelming tasks into manageable steps and focusing on daily actions rather than the whole journey. This approach allows for surrender and acceptance, resulting in a more fulfilling daily planning experience.
- Authentic Conversations Matter: We highlighted the value of deep, authentic conversations over socially acceptable ones. Through podcasting, we have the unique platform to connect with people from all over the world and impact lives with these genuine interactions.
- Overcoming Perfectionism and Workaholism: Revisiting the importance of setting boundaries and understanding personal worth beyond perfectionism. Both Katherine and I delved into the impact of workaholism and perfectionism on relationships, health, and self-esteem. Overcoming these forms of addiction is vital for holistic personal growth.
