It was a pleasure to serve as a guest speaker at a Responsible AI dinner last night, hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The evening touched on many of the challenging aspects of deploying artificial intelligence responsibility, especially given the heightened focus that Generative AI has brought over the last 18 months. It was also awesome to spend time with Beth Worrall and Donna Forlin from the National AI Centre Slalom, who provided a great perspective on the government's efforts in this space whilst also sharing details on the forthcoming voluntary AI Safety Standard. A few more snippets and details on Bedrock (our new foundational model service for building with generative AI)… Bedrock is serverless - no servers or infrastructure to manage - just a simple API where you provide an input and which model to use, and Bedrock gives you an output. Easy as pie. Model customization through fine tuning is easy. Customers simply point Bedrock at a few labeled examples in S3, and the service can fine-tune the model for a particular task. Just provide a couple dozen prompt/response examples, and away you go. None of your data is used to train the underlying foundational models. All data is encrypted and does not leave your VPC. This is a big deal for real-world, production use of foundational models. Bedrock integrates with other AWS services, including SageMaker Experiments (to test different models) and Pipelines (to help manage FMs at scale). Useful. In addition to Amazon’s own “Titan” models, you can access Anthropic’s Claude LLM, AI21’s multi-language models (to generate text in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and Dutch), and Stability AI’s image generation models. #aws #ai #data #amazon

Another momentous day for AWS in South East Asia!!    I’m delighted to confirm that AWS has committed to build an AWS Region in Malaysia. This announcement will bring our AWS ASEAN Region footprint to four, following Singapore, Jakarta and the recently announced plans to build an AWS Region in Bangkok, Thailand. As part of this announcement, AWS will invest $25.5B Malaysian Ringgit (USD6B) in the country by 2037. This announcement is both recognition of the momentum we have seen in Malaysia over the last decade, and our long term commitment to support Malaysia’s ambition to be a digital-first nation.   Today would not have been possible without the support and commitment of our local customers, and partners, and I was delighted to see 3000 attendees present at our AWS Cloud Day in KL this morning to hear the announcement in person!
