Joining the Sports Innovation Lab Women's Sports Club NewFronts at the IAB NewFronts remotely, and was just struck by Theresa Plaisance's quote about women's athletes being incredibly approachable. After a decade of Portland Thorns FC matches and unfettered access to U.S. Soccer Federation WNT members, I'm shocked that this hasn't been a marketing pitch more often. SIL and Trailblazing Sports Group have brought up a host of luminaries—Sandra L. Richards from Morgan Stanley, Meg Linehan from The Athletic, tobin heath, Santia Deck, Becca Roux, Sarah Spain, Mallory Dobbs, PE—along with SIL cofounder Angela Ruggiero to talk about the benefits of their data-informed women's sports media packages. SIL's Gina Waldhorn said the NewFront is about going where the checks are written, but Trailblazing founder Sara Gotfredson adds that it's about making already-approachable women's sports even easier for brands to work with as media partners. “I believe in the power of the purse with brands, so brands can make things happen in women’s sports,” Gotfredson told ADWEEK. “If I can play a role in helping brands invest in a lot of different properties within women’s sports beyond the big linear folks or big digital properties, then I feel like we are a firm with a mission.”
