As hurricane season progresses, it's crucial to focus on preparation rather than predictions. Here are important tips to keep in mind: 1. We're not just looking at long-range forecasts—we're preparing for any storm that may come our way. 2. Be ready with a plan and supplies. 3. Consider planning to stay with family and friends outside your evacuation zone; if that’s not possible, be aware of available shelters. 4. Lee County reminds you that not all will open for every storm. Check the All Hazards Guide for a list https://bit.ly/3RHUpza and monitor local media outlets for which ones are open. We encourage all residents to use Lee County Public Safety’s online resources: https://bit.ly/4bgJC5P

Understanding Hurricane Categories Category Three = Winds 111-129 mph. Devastating damage will occur: Well-built framed homes may incur significant damage or removal of roof decking and gable ends. Many trees will be snapped or uprooted, blocking numerous roads. Electricity and water will be unavailable for several days to weeks after the storm passes. Hurricane King 1950, Betsy 1965, Jeanne 2004, and Irma 2017 were all Category 3 storms when they struck South Florida.
