In a few hours, I will have the honor of joining other leaders and scholars in the field of economics and the free market to discuss one of the most pressing issues of our time: economic inequality and its implications on development. Economic inequality is not just a statistic or a line on a graph; it is a multifaceted issue that affects every aspect of society. It influences access to education, healthcare, and opportunities, and it shapes the social fabric of our communities. As we delve into this topic, we aim to explore the root causes of inequality, the barriers it creates, and the innovative solutions that can drive more inclusive growth. Our discussion will cover a range of perspectives, from policy frameworks and regulatory environments to the role of entrepreneurship and innovation in bridging the gap. We will examine successful case studies and consider how market-driven solutions can contribute to reducing disparities and fostering sustainable development. One key area of focus will be how to create equitable opportunities for all, ensuring that economic growth benefits everyone, not just a select few. What does it take to move systems and scale change that sticks? The building blocks are addressing the root cause, shift in mindset and values, population level impact and sustainability. #newdaynewchapter Chapter 1095: February 28,2024 Chanakya Niti 565:"Perhaps nobody advised Brahma to impart perfume to gold, fruit to sugarcane, flowers to sandalwood trees, wealth to the learned and long life to the King." The world we live today is in imperfect mode. Just look around yourself. Pollution levels are higher than ever, junk food consumption is staggeringly high. The reproductive life span is decreasing, the divide between the rich and the poor is at its deepest, human trafficking has increased, illegal child labour still exists. The major economies are in shambles, our natural resources are on the brink of exhaustion, animals are going extinct, women safety has been compromised, corruption is as high as ever, and the number of innocent lives lost to satiate the greed of the few. Yes women have more rights today, infant mortality rates are lower but that may be due to evolution. Ideas, people and situations evolve and the evolution, by its fundamental nature, is progressive. We are living in bubbles of false assumptions. We concern ourselves with what is near and dear and ignore the bigger picture just to save the trouble of facing the fact that there are lost causes in this world and in our societies and that we, believe it or not, are the reason for their existence. We have numbed our minds to the unfathomable amount of bad news streaming into our lives, just to escape accountability. This is the fundamental truth about humanity; we go into the denial mode on the tiniest pretense of accountability. But the bitter truth exists, and deep inside our bones, we know it, even if no one likes to read depressing stuff. But inspite of all this negativity, we are still here living and strong. We haven’t yet given up. For all that is wrong with the world today, there is an equal potential for good. There is goodness within us and it manifests itself in ways that are better and more scaleable. We are more digital and more scaleable because of better technological developments. We just have to let that transcend limitations and reach where it is required. Do you think "perfection'' is just a theoretical concept, made up by human beings? Ask yourself, what does perfection actually mean to you, anyway? Depending on the way you look at it, nothing in the universe is perfect—would perfect things wear out, die and cease to be? Or, everything is perfect—the way things are is the way they are “supposed” to be. Try to focus on the things that are going well in your life, and try to be more accepting of things that may not be exactly as you would like them to be. It can also be helpful to practice gratitude, which involves taking the time to truly appreciate and give thanks for the good things in your life. This can help shift your focus from negative thoughts and feelings to more positive ones. Be grateful and let go what is not making sense to you. Take Care and God Bless 🙏

Reflections from the #Horasis Global Meeting, #Gaziantep, #Türkiye, 22-23 October, by Jennifer Nadel FRSA, Co-Director, Compassion in Politics, UK https://lnkd.in/e48vbisk 📌 The Need for a Global Shift 📌 Beneath Horasis’ extraordinary spread of panels and plenaries, a number of common themes emerged. ❓How can we cultivate adequate political leadership in the face of democracy’s baked in need to court short-term popularity at the expense of long-term electorally less popular solutions? ❓In the absence of political failure to address our spiralling challenges, can we trust markets themselves and the goodwill of benevolent investors, philanthropists and charitable institutions to provide the answers to the volatility of our global political economy?   ❓ Can the common good be left in the hands of those with goodwill but no mandate – beyond the moral – to produce equitable and adequate solutions for the communities they affect?  How can we close the gap between the solutions we all agree are needed and the actions that will be taken to achieve them? ⚠ A new course needs to be set, one which places our collective wellbeing above the pursuit of unsustainably generated wealth. ⚠ The solutions exist and were powerfully addressed at the summit. For starters, a UN Convention to prevent #Ecocide and a shift from prioritising GDP to a more holistic measurement (as advanced by the Wellbeing Economy Alliance and already adopted by give nations).  ⚠ The challenge for those of us in the Horasis community, with the extraordinary power at its disposal, is to make that change of direction happen before it’s too late. Indian billionaire Gautam Adani (from the Adani Group) is in the process of launching a new think tank: The Chintan Research Foundation: https://lnkd.in/eyyYdacB The Financial Times reports that: Adani wants to create a “world-class think-tank” that can help frame research and narratives “with the global south in mind”, they added. “It will be very professionally run.” Reports so far suggest that the Chintan Research Foundation seeks to change the global public agenda to better align with India's interests and view of the world. This is also behind China's recent drive to support and encourage the formation of think tanks (see On Think Tanks' work on China: https://lnkd.in/eW3zMtwt). Morning Muse :75th year republic -Gen next The question from Gen next was simple ; why do we keep on stressing on 75th year & how does it make a difference as Bombay continues to be over- populated, chaotic & at times quite dirty. Gen next can at times be straight in face without having patience of 70’s born folks like me 😎 Standard scripts like how we are likely to be 3rd largest economy or now we are a largest functional democracy doesn’t cut much ice. So I thought why not ask the 9th grade kid , what will make him happy on India’s 100th yr of independence in 2047. On a positive note he had a refreshing clarity😊 - Climate was on the top agenda & how everything has to be remodeled to ensure that vehiclular pollution; protection of green cover at Borivili national park has to be core part of governance🏡 - Special focus on eco growth to population at bottom rung was his main focus ; the kid is not able to fathom why inspite of all Govt welfare scheme or various Pvt sector out-reach prog , pace of change is tardy. Standard objections from me that such transformation takes time in democracy or we are still 3rd world country in terms of PVI & may not have resources , etc etc😳 - Refreshing part is he looked relatively lesser to journey since independence & wanted to make transformation quicker & targeted. From their perspective, tech has to leveraged to make things happen. Also to ensure that everytime he goes abroad , he doesn’t have to fret about how India’s has so much to work on the relative progress. Running out of argument & patience , I asked him would he be happy if we had a Israel - Palestine kind of war within India. Or would we have been happpy if we were locked in a war like Ukraine & Russian for > 2 yr ? And if not , some credit has to go to democratic set up & how it still functions no matter how chaotic it may appear to him🤷♂️ Finally I asked him .. Why can’t he be part of the solution rather than pointing fingers. Why not join political party ( response was absolute negative) ; joining civil service ( again -ve response) or joining Army / police services ( usual -ve response) …..point I tried to make him was how country can make a dramatic transformation if he’s not seen most of India or he’s not willing to play a concrete role in the ‘change’ he wants to see in next few years & not in eternity🤐 I , also made a point how solution is not in doing hi studies from abroad & hope / pray that he settles down abroad. At least he started thinking🤷♂️ What was refreshing was need to make change & transformation NOW. Not to go back to so called ‘ancient history’ & justify targdy nature of growth. He started thinking on how to be part of solution😇 When was last time we saw a young politician making a huge impact on youth of country🤔 So much true for a country like ours who have been portraying demographic dividend of a relatively younger population. ( Personal view )
