When I joined the Planet A Ventures team earlier this year, it wasn’t only because of the critically important mission. It was also because I felt that they were my people, leading the fight for life within our planetary boundaries, and I had to take on this challenge with them. Last week in Berlin, it became clear that I’m not the only one. For the first time ever we brought our entire community together under one roof, for the 2024 Planet A Summit. Our theme - The Art of Change - reflected our belief that the masterpieces of our time are the technologies creating a sustainable future. We transformed our incredible portfolio into an art exhibition, an invitation to step back and appreciate the beauty of what we are trying to achieve together. A collection of leading voices on this mission gave us equal doses of urgency and hope - cutting through the noise and getting right to the tangible action we need to see from ourselves and others. It was a genuinely special few days. 💚 Huge thanks to our speakers Nate Hagens, Maja Göpel, Stefan Rahmstorf, Christoph Stanger, Lea Strumberger, Philipp Schröder, Miriam Partington, Aidan O'Sullivan, Neil D'Souza, Johanna Baare, Tobias Lechtenfeld, and Massimo Portincaso. 💚 Massive kudos to our creative genius’ Moritz, Sarah and Laura for the beautiful design, and for making the event feel truly ‘Planet A style’. This is a damning report - both for United Utilities who are very clearly guilty of inaction to prevent 10+ hours of totally unnecessary polluting activity; and the UK Environment Agency who’s inaction (or lack of authority) is allowing such repeat events to go unpunished. Anyone who understands how this kind of critical infrastructure works will find United’s explanation laughable, and then incredibly frustrating. There appear to be a number of criminally negligent acts here - I hope the regulator prosecutes as such at the second attempt. The repercussions of such reckless operating practices need to start impacting operators in a financially meaningful way.
