#Euro2024 kicks off tomorrow and there’s lots of excitement in the air. 🏆⚽ As we gear up to cheer on our favourite teams here’s a quick reminder we need to be massive supporters of our mates too. 2 in 3 football fans say they’ve struggled with their mental health, and a massive 94% say they have never opened up about it to someone they play or watch football with. We know what a huge difference reaching out and talking can make. So, if you’re already talking about the score, why not ask about a little more? Let’s tackle this together and make talking about how we’re feeling as normal as discussing tomorrow’s match. We can all make the time to check in and #TalkMoreThanFootball. Enjoy the matches, support your teams and let’s all look out for each other. Remember if you’re going through a difficult time right now, you’re not alone. We’re always here 24/7 to listen on 116 123. Cheers to our partner Three UK for teaming up with us to help smash the stigma around talking about difficult feelings. 💪

Viva Portugal & Men's Mental Health Having watched the Euro 20024 quarter final between Portugal and Slovenia which took place on 1 July 2024, I can’t help but recall the emotions, passion, hunger shown by one of the greatest football players to have ever played football – CR7 Cristiano Ronaldo. I have seen so much backlash from the media, from commentators making comments like ‘cry-baby’, ‘crying like a little girl’, ‘baby’ just because one man who loves winning Ronaldo dared show emotion on one of the biggest stages in sport 😡 I don't care what people say about his performance on that night, or during the tournament, the backlash I'm seeing online (both paper/websites and comments and memes) about him letting out emotion is appalling. This is terrible for a younger generation to see the ridicule he's getting, for them to think that emotion is such a bad thing. Statistic - men are 3 times more likely to die by suicide, a huge factor in this is men not talking, and men being afraid to show emotion. 😢 I'm never afraid or ashamed to say I cry, nor should anyone else feel so!- 😭 Looking at the current atrocities that are taking place around the world, I’m not afraid to say I have cried for innocent lives being lost daily, innocent people having to feel the affects of an unwanted war, parents losing their children, brothers losing their sisters, families being completely wiped out. I have no words to describe this unimaginable situation but remain optimistic and positive for change to take place. 👉 Now as I prepare to watch the Semi-Final showdown between Portugal and France, I leave you all with a thought – ‘Crying doesn't mean you are weak, it is a sign that you've been strong for too long’.

Football is embracing mental health - hopefully for good. Out of the many topics and causes that football can help amplify and tackle, mental health has been a hot one lately. We are seeing campaigns and initiatives from different clubs, organizations and players coming forward and sharing their stories. Here are some highlights from the past months: 👉 Juventus Football Club released a new podcast where guests will share mental health journeys. "Stories of Strenght" is hosted by a therapist and a psychologist, and the debut episode features goalkeeper Matia Perin: https://lnkd.in/ddmeMgdz. 👉 Norwich City Football Club's incredible World Mental Health video went viral and the club is now making it available for download as part of their mission to boost mental health: https://lnkd.in/d3tK5_YG. 👉 Common Goal recently launched the "Create the Space" movement, formed by a collective of international players to equip football to understand, prevent, and deal with mental health issues: https://lnkd.in/dT3QtfCB. Earlier this year, the organization had also worked on an initiative with the USWNT to promote conversations around mental health ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™: https://lnkd.in/drNZxpRd. Were there any other football-centred projects or content around mental health and wellbeing that stood out to you recently? #football #mentalhealth #footballforgood #sportforgood

Mental Performance Coach for players in NBA, G-League, LKL, French Pro A, Pro B and some of the best prospects in Europe. Host of the Mind Game of Basketball podcast. Author of the Mental guide « 1 on 1 with yourself »
"The player ate the person." The word on mental health isn't taboo any longer in the basketball sphere, yet many players, coaches, and organizations wonder how they can benefit from mental performance coaches and what they can clearly bring to the table. By reading Ricky Rubio's previous struggles, you'll understand how developing a collaboration with a mental performance coach will prevent players from reaching such low mental states. "The player ate the person. I didn't know who I was. It was a difficult moment for me." "I developed mechanisms that had led me to play at a high level but which were not sustainable." "We try to control the uncontrollable, and you never know when life will take you down another path." Thrilled to see Chelsea Football Club, Three UK, Vinnie Jones and Samaritans collaborate to launch the #TalkMoreThanFootball campaign. https://lnkd.in/e77CWNwJ This initiative, encourages football fans to prioritize conversations around mental health within their social and support networks. It's not just about knowing that mental health is important. It's about knowing how to spot the signs, how to approach the conversation, and how to offer support. More evidence in the news today ⬇️ that professional athletes need just as much mental health support as every other human being in the world. Just because athletes play sport & for large parts of their career, the perception is they seem to be enjoying what they do, at crucial times they can also need a break & those in charge of the sporting bodies should only ever support the individual rather than judge them ✔️ #mentalhealthmatters #mentoringmatters #rolemodels #supportathletes #respect #decisionmaking 🙏🏼 #discriminations https://lnkd.in/egXAMb76
