In my 14+ years of editing and writing, as both an in-house editor and a freelance writer and editor, I know the importance of sharing *POSITIVE* feedback. It's so vital, especially for freelance writers who are very much working in a silo without full purview on initiatives or analytics. If you're only giving edits that emphasize lack/misses/changes, you're not doing your job as an editor. Nothing creates good (great!) work like good, positive feedback. (Sidenote: If you are only giving negative/harsh feedback, ask yourself if there's something wrong in your briefings or expectations before continuously finding yourself in a negative feedback loop.)
Special shout-out to editors who give feedback, encouragement, or share numbers! Getting more work and having your pieces published are obviously signs of doing good work. But when an editor shares praise, constructive feedback, or numbers like how your piece is performing...*chef's kiss* It not only helps build relationships but helps boost morale. #freelancewriting #contentwriting #writer #editor #editing
