We’ve been traveling through Europe over the past week and having the very best time! So far we’ve done: 📍Colmar, France 📍Lucern, Switzerland 📍Lake Como (Tremezzo), Italy Next Up: The Swiss Alps & Germany! These kids have been the absolute best little travelers and I’m so proud of them. If you’d like to dollow along, my 8 yr old son Hudson and I created a family instagram travel account- @jollygoodtravel. You can follow us there to see all the places we go, plus tips on where to stay, eat, visit and tips for traveling Europe with kids! Three tactics working for us: 1. Find lots of playgrounds and open space. Slow down and talk to other local parents. 2. Give your kids a “good traveler budget”. For every day their behavior meets your expectations, they get a set amount of money that they can use on whatever they want. They can save it up for bigger souveniors or spend it on smaller treats- up to them! 3. Bring grandparents and Aunts/Uncles along! 😉 Travel Account: https://lnkd.in/e7DzB3Xz

Wonderful! We will do Colmar and Lucern also in two weeks. Also Lugano on the way. Kids in similar age group. You also visited the Verkehrshaus in Lucern?

How is it with these ages? My dream includes taking the 8&6 year olds though Europe next summer, but I’m afraid the idea is better than the implementation will be.

These are GREAT ideas! Love it - my parents and I traveled the US (46 states) during my growing up years (70s - 1987). We drove a car and pulled a camper. For our trips, the would make “game boxes” and our first drive was always the longest. So they would say “good behavior in the car and drive” you can open the box when the sunrises in “blank state”. So much anticipation and focus for my brother and I to figure out car fun until the box! Enjoy Europe!

1) It's amazing that your children are getting to have this experience! I bet some of their favorite family memories will come out of it! 2) Thank you for including tips for international travel with kids! It's a dream of ours to do the same. We went to Disney with kids and bringing other family to help was KEY lol! 3) I love the name you chose for your IG page, maybe because we're on a Mary Poppins kick at my house and I have "Jolly Holiday" rattling around in my brain 😆

It's generally not a good idea to post photos of your children on social media. I say this knowing that many people might find it intrusive and/or obnoxious.

Playgrounds are KEY to fun travel at these ages - I brought my (then) 10yo and 7yo to Germany, Denmark, and Amsterdam for two weeks in the summer of 2022, and I now call it "The Great Playground Tour of Europe" because that's pretty much all they wanted to do. It helps that the playgrounds in those countries are so different and fun!

Love this! I used to give a star sticker to the 'best' traveler for the day. Start them traveling early - and they will have a life-long appreciation for cultures and languages and different lifestyles.

This is incredible! Just missed you in Germany but I 100% recommend swimming in the lake just below Zugspitze, the highest point in Germany and Austria. The water is crystal clear, refreshing, and easily with the best view in all of Germany.

4. Whether you did this on purpose or not, Samantha Russell, depending on the location for the day, I dress mine alike in a bright or unique color (I like tie-dyed) to make it easier to find them when you’re in a large public setting. Love the “good traveler budget idea” for the positive reinforcement! 🙌🏻❤️
