The last week marked the completion of the Advanced training in Systemic Constellations with Centre for Systemic Constellations A further year of exploring liminal spaces and the discomfort, learning, challenge and connection that can arise from being in them with a group of peers in order to better support those that we work with, with greater depth and awareness. The lens was firmly turned in on ourselves to consider our own stance as practitioners - how we hold still and grounded, when riding the rollercoaster of change with multiple people and the systems that they inhabit. Clearly much easier said than done. As any practitioner knows the term 'advanced' is a bit of a red herring; really this ‘ending’ was representative of a transition and a deeper dive into new beginnings and working and leaning into greater complexity in systems with more comfort and ease whilst attuning to and trusting the intelligence of the field. Thanks to the Centre for Systemic Constellations and the teaching faculty for their mastery and stewardship (and to holding the golden thread all these years) and to all my wonderful peers for their wisdom and experience in contributing to such a rich, supportive, challenging and thought provoking learning environment. Having this ending coincide with some actual sun and being away on an offsite with the opportunity for field walks in the evening only added to the sense of celebration. #systemschange #systemiccoaching  #radicalinclusion #seeingthewhole #Newbeginnings 

No-one is perfect – get over it. Every workshop we do ends with a polite request (ok we may beg a little) for participants to complete a short survey to rate workshop. It’s anonymous so they can tell us what they REALLY thought. Our current running rate for participants who would recommend our workshops to a colleague is ……..98.6%.   And that’s from 1000’s of attendees.  Pretty impressive 🔥 Then why do I immediately zone in on the 1.4% who said they had no opinion or wouldn’t recommend ❓ 😳 I go straight to the additional survey comments to see if they added any 😳 I waste my valuable time replaying the workshop in my head trying to figure WHO THAT PERSON WAS! 🤔 Why don’t I focus on the comments of all the participants who leave comments like: “this was the best three hours of training that I have ever attended” ❓ Recognise yourself ❓ Turns out that I (and maybe you!) are not the only ones who do this. It’s called Negativity Bias and it affects us all. This bias is the tendency for us to give more importance to negative experiences than to positive or neutral experiences. Sometimes we need to give ourselves a break and recognise all the great things we have done – especially when thinking about how to promote yourself in your organisation. Since I've started journalling: • My thinking is better • I can deal with challenges better • I'm feeling more confident in my ability I think every pharmacist should start journalling. Here's 3 Reasons why: A regular journalling routine can: 1. Improve your thinking Writing your thoughts out improves your thinking. Distancing yourself from your thoughts allows you to see them. You can assess them objectively. Uninfluenced by emotion. You can read it back and question whether it makes sense the same way you would with a friend. When you create the space to think better, you can think of better solutions to problems. 2. Improve your resilience Everyone faces challenges in life. I've found journalling allows you to reflect and grow from them. You're able to ask yourself questions on your challenge. What did I struggle with? Why did I struggle with it? What can I learn from this? You stop fearing challenges and start to learn from them. Plus by writing it down you have advice that you can come back to or share with a family member or friend, if needed. 3. Improve your confidence I've noticed my confidence has improved with journalling. Maybe it's because of the above points. When you can deal with challenges and think better, you're more confident in your self and your ability. Seeing the small wins of overcoming challenges, you build evidence. And evidence builds confidence. If you're looking to start journalling but not sure how, I suggest starting with prompts. At the start or end of each day, ask yourself 1 question and write the answer down. It can be handwritten or on your phone, the important thing is you write it out.
