Today is #NationalDonutDay, and we're celebrating more than just the sweet treat itself. During World War I, volunteers from The #SalvationArmy, also known as the “Donut Lassies,” provided delicious donuts to soldiers on the front lines.
Let’s use this day to appreciate the impact of small gestures of kindness and maybe get a little pastry, too. Happy National Donut Day 🍩

Happy National Donut Day! 🍩 Did you know this delicious day started in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army volunteers who served donuts to soldiers during World War I? It's a perfect opportunity to enjoy and learn about the history of these tasty treats with your kids. Try decorating donuts at home to explore shapes, colors, and counting!
Simple Donut-Making Ideas with Kids:
1. Biscuit Donuts: Use canned biscuit dough, cut out the centers, and fry them up. Let the kids decorate with icing and sprinkles.
2. Air Fryer Donuts: Make a healthier version using an air fryer. Top with powdered sugar or cinnamon.
3. No-Bake Donuts: Use pre-made donut holes, dip them in melted chocolate, and add toppings like nuts or coconut flakes.

#Thanksgiving is a big deal in the U.S. - it's a day to gather with friends and family, watch football, and eat turkey until you're stuffed (pun intended - don't forget to wear stretchy pants!)
The evolution of Thanksgiving over the years has led to a unique American celebration. From volunteering, parades, and the Presidential turkey pardon, there are a lot of things that have become integral to the modern Thanksgiving holiday.

Have you heard of Church & Burgers?
Today we caught up with Jonah Beyer, President of Feed the Need Missions at Stray Gathering Cowboy Church in Muldoon, TX to have him explain what this event was all about. Here's what he had to say:
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF FEED THE NEED MISSION'S EVENT, CHURCH & BURGERS?
"I would say to connect the church.
We need churches to partner with us because we don't have a local church, and so we want to unite the local churches together to serve in the community.
And we're a platform. Feed the Need’s weekly site locations are a platform where we get to engage the community. But we need believers to engage that community.
So, Church & Burgers is a way to spread the word about the mission and what we're doing with that platform to reach people physically and spiritually."
WHAT DOES THE FEED THE NEED TEAM DO FOR THE EVENT? WHAT ALL IS INVOLVED?
"We come to your church and we set up a site like what we do every week and we"ll cook for your church.
In addition to cooking for you, we also participate in the service. Whether it's preaching the whole sermon or just doing a little promo—we’ll do whatever fits the church's style of Sunday morning.
After church, we want to share in community with the church body, and that means sitting down and sharing a meal with you. By serving your church burgers and hot dogs and getting to know your people."
HOW CAN A CHURCH GO ABOUT GETTING A CHURCH & BURGERS EVENT GOING IN THEIR COMMUNITY?
"It’s as simple as calling or emailing us. You can call our office, email us at info@feedtheneed.org. You can also reach out to a local site coordinator or a local site in your area that's serving and just make the connections, and we'll coordinate a Sunday that works for you.
Church & Burgers is a great way for your church to learn more about Feed the Need Missions, and find out how your church can get involved in our helping our mission feed our local communities both physically and spiritually.

As a survivor, I just want to keep it real and let you in on an important truth. There are these tiny barriers that keep stopping me/us. What survivors have to remember is that all money is not good money. we may have been bound in chains, brainwashed, or in servitude at Helmsley Palace, but there was something we didn't have to worry about, money ,somebody else took on that role. that was their role and we knew ours. it takes a long time to heal from some things. and then we come into the world and the world thinks we should understand the rules it plays by. Ok. What the world says about getting a job, school or any other naturally helping option, most of us just can't seem to grasp. it takes money to live. It's so tempting to go back the old ways, they seem much easier. Most find out that's poisonous thinking, Especially when it costs you more than you ever bargained for. You see, eventually (with help) we understand our worth. What we do to get our money is part of a very sensitive and intricate process of who we are becoming. enslaved we had money, at least we didn't have to worry about money, whether it be from loving a pimp, training from childhood or even natural survival (especially when they get you hooked to drugs to keep you), was not worth it! Financially stable I would breeze right through these small yet almost impossible barriers, in fact my/our barriers seem so small and insignificant, many would scoff (and do), but they're real and survivors face them every day, especially when they finally get to the point where they're going to clean up their side of the street. What a job! After being a spiritual and physical wreck, that side of the street is at best unbearable to the owner let alone a password by. This is why I'm so passionate about programs that sound *great on paper*.. that's about all they're worth, a damn piece of paper. I'm sick of nonprofits making money from our demise. That is happening. Bet your (donating) bottom dollar! Anywho, like this song says, you got to go through it to get to it.
May every survivor of human trafficking get to the point where they start cleaning up their messes. never underestimate the strength of the human spirit.
Never.

In the face of rising living expenses and stagnant wages across the U.S., a staggering 78% of Americans find themselves living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to cover basic necessities. This financial strain affects individuals of all generations, with Baby Boomers particularly impacted. The primary culprit behind this trend is the surge in monthly expenses, leaving little room for savings or financial stability. Shockingly, 71.93% of those living paycheck to paycheck have $2,000 or less in savings, underscoring the urgent need for support.

Sukkot, a Jewish holiday, is a time of celebration and reflection. What if you viewed it from a DE&I perspective?
1. An important theme of Sukkot is inclusion and hospitality. Sharing meals and celebrating together in the sukkah (a temporary dwelling made of branches and leaves) is Jewish tradition. DE&I efforts promote inclusion by creating an environment that welcomes and values all employees, customers, and stakeholders.
2. Introspection and self-reflection are also part of Sukkot. It is Jewish tradition to reflect and seek forgiveness for one's own actions and behavior. Empathy and self-awareness are crucial for DE&I efforts, as it encourages businesses to examine their own biases and practices, and work towards creating a more equitable and inclusive workplace.
3. Sukkot celebrates the harvest and earth's bounty, bringing the world together. This is a time to reflect on the interconnectedness of all life, and to express gratitude. A connection to the global community is particularly relevant to DE&I efforts since it encourages businesses to consider their impact on the wider world, and to work towards a more sustainable and equitable future.
To our Jewish friends and family, Happy Sukkot! Similar to Thanksgiving, Sukkot is a time to express appreciation for the bounty of the season and show gratitude for blessings like good food and safe shelter. #Sukkot#FeastOfBooths#Gratitude

"An Attitude of Gratitude"
As the old adage goes, it's better to light a single candle than curse the darkness.
Every single one of us has the ability to improve the world at least a little. And if all of us work together and make a real effort, we can actually change the world, and make it an entirely different place
So during this Thanksgiving celebration, remember that the purpose of the holiday is not an extra day of football, or a game of Biggest Turkey Wins.
Rather, Thanksgiving is a day of gratitude for the blessings we have. So try to give thanks by doing something nice, performing a good deed.
Give somebody a word of encouragement. Open a door for a stranger. Compliment the cook for the delicious meal. Smile, and display your patience. Or, like me, donate a unit or two of platelets at the Red Cross.
More often than you know, another person's daily ration of confidence depends on your kindness. So have an attitude of gratitude, and be thankful for your blessings.
Pay it forward, and pass it along. Maybe together we can turn every day into Thanksgiving.
PS: Yep--most Red Cross chapters are open 365 days per year for donations of blood, platelets, and plasma. The need is that great.
