Most horses in Ghana have very difficult lives, pegged to a single spot for days on end or stuck in small paddocks, not enough food, no water, no shelter from the elements, essentially abandoned, often neglected. Even for horses with decent owners, misinformation abounds and even when provided with care, the "care" can do more harm than good. Supermarkets must take a leadership role in addressing the chronic bycatch problem associated with Scotland's bottom-trawl fisheries, which supply the scampi market. Bycatch and discarding have a significant impact on Scotland's marine environment, with at least 1kg marine wildlife caught, killed and discarded for every 1kg langoustines caught for scampi. That means proper vessel tracking must be implemented on the bottom-trawl fleet to record what is caught where and allow bycatch hotspots to be avoided.
