Healing Politics is committed to helping ensure that the costs of our campaign school aren’t a barrier for you. That’s why we’ve asked fundraising expert, Nancy Bocskor, to host two fundraising pre-sessions to help you raise money for your tuition and travel costs. Nancy has helped dozens of women raise the money they needed to attend the LBJ Women’s Campaign School at the Univ of Texas. Nancy will be one of our instructors at this year’s school, and she's excited to help you achieve your fundraising goals. During these sessions (dates will be sent to applicants) Nancy will teach you how to build a list of potential donors, ask for money, create a fundraising appeal to send to your network and launch a GoFundMe account. We will do all we can to help you with this key first step: learning how to raise money! The Campaign (June 5-8) School costs $895 and includes all materials and meals. (Early birds – the first ten applicants who are accepted – will receive a $100 discount). We have a room block at the JB Duke Hotel at a discounted rate of $239/night plus taxes. You’ll also have to pay for your transportation. And we ask all attendees to “pay forward” another $200 after the campaign school.) Apply today! https://lnkd.in/gaPMXe7W

💥 Compassionate Communities: Reviving Early Support for Families 💥 This recent report from the Institute for Fiscal Studies sheds light on the benefits that Sure Start brought to children and communities. While we can't reverse the closures, we must recognise the critical role of early years support and glean valuable insights from the Sure Start experience. I still recall a young mum who I was talking to when Sure Start was at its height, saying that her local Sure Start Centre was a lifeline for her when everything else in her life was falling apart. Sadly, three years later it was closed. While Home-Start and other local family support charities continue to work tirelessly to provide a lifeline for families, the need is simply too great for us to do it alone. The introduction of the Family Hub programme is a step in the right direction, but it's crucial to acknowledge the huge gap left by the closure of thousands of children's centres that were once part of a thriving community of support for families. Now more than ever, we need to rally behind the idea of rebuilding these communities and a partnership between the voluntary and public sector that truly makes a difference. Reviving early support on the scale we once had demands not just political will, but substantial investment. Yet, the evidence demonstrates the transformative potential of such initiatives. So let’s unite in advocating for the resurgence of comprehensive early years support, leveraging the invaluable lessons learned from Sure Start to pave the way for brighter, more equitable futures for our children and communities. #EarlyIntervention #CommunitySupport #FamilyWellbeing #SureStartLegacy

We support organizations that provide programs and initiatives focused on early childhood, youth, and family development. Resources that are crucial to this model include education, employment, childcare, healthcare, housing, transportation, support systems, and more. But access alone doesn’t do the work—it presents opportunity. With help from our nonprofits, citizens must take the initiative to help themselves. In a strong family unit with access to these kinds of resources, young children can achieve their developmental milestones. Youth and parents/guardians engage in behaviors that promote positive social, emotional, and academic development. These opportunities are crucial to facilitating a successful transition to adulthood. Then, these adults are more likely to be independent; breaking them from a cycle that puts them—and the families they grow—in crisis.

For non-profits, establishing and nurturing mutually respectful and beneficial relationships with public partners can be invaluable (and really is a non-negotiable). Non-profits have an opportunity (and responsibility) to be perennially updating and fine-tuning or even rebooting their offerings, but the social infrastructure they provide to society is invaluable. Consequently, to help navigate and achieve the economics of capital projects, it's entirely appropriate that non-profits engage public partners, in funding and generally.

~2 Hours Left in GlobalGiving's Giving Tuesday Donation Match! Please see our GlobalGiving project link (below) where you can donate to receive a match. If you are unable to donate today, but want to in the future - please utilize our direct PayPal link (see below) (501c3 receipt of donation letter for tax documentation will be provided in either case). There are many different priorities / needs which all require financial support to ensure the orphanage / staff can pull through and keep moving in the right direction (see below). Our current Focus: Healthcare: We have previously utilized a partnership with a group of doctors and nurses to staff the clinic at the foundation and provide for the children. Since the gang war, that operation is no longer running and we are in need of funds for emergency hospital visits, check-ups. pharmaceuticals, etc. Transitioning Young Adults from Orphanage to Adult Life in Haiti: One of the biggest gaps our kids have is around life skills, career planning, & professional development when they are looking to move from the orphanage to the realities of Haiti. We have partnered with Kids Connection Haiti to focus on providing coaching, 1-1 counseling, and running workshops with our young adults to help prepare them for living successful, yet independent lives in Haiti. We have conducted a pilot focused primarily on life skills and want to expand this program / partnership to move into career planning & professional development. College / Trade School: The need and ongoing expenses are increasing quickly as more and more young adults reach high school graduation age. We currently have multiple children enrolled in medical school in Haiti. Long before the COVID-19 pandemic, about 50 percent of Kentucky was already considered a “childcare desert,” meaning there is more demand for the service than there are available spots, and many childcare teachers and providers were already earning poverty wages, even as strapped parents struggled to afford childcare tuition. "A System on Life Support" highlights a unique grassroots effort in Owensboro, KY determined to find a local fix. This group, the Greater Owensboro Partnership for Early Development (GOPED), is comprised of parents, teachers, community leaders, philanthropists, and business partners with one common goal: to not only keep Kentucky’s shaky childcare infrastructure afloat, but to find local solutions that will strengthen the system – for good.
