As much as 85 percent of our brain development occurs from birth to age five, making early childhood learning one of the best investments we can make in our keiki’s health and our community’s future. This fall, more of Hawai‘i’s hard-working parents can start their workday knowing that their three- and four-year old children—and their fast-developing brains—are learning, growing, and thriving in a safe, enriching environment that’s setting them up for future success. That’s due to an expansion of Preschool Open Doors, a preschool access program that’s expected to allow 2,000 more children to qualify for subsidies, providing an early educational boost that will have a lasting impact on Hawai‘i’s collective economic and social well-being, especially for families who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed (ALICE). World Teachers' Day 2023 Seasons for Growth offers children and young people a safe space to come together and share their experiences of change and loss. It aims to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people who are dealing with significant life changes by exploring the impact of loss and change on everyday life and learning new ways to respond to these changes. Barb and Jodi have been Seasons for Growth Companions for many years. In their roles as Out of Home Care teachers, they support NSW Department of Education schools with students living in Out of Home Care (OoHC). They help build capacity in schools by supporting teaching, learning, and challenging behaviours. They also provide transition support for pre-schoolers in the care system. They both agreed how much they love the Seasons for Growth Program for children in care. They explained why: “It doesn’t go straight to questions about why they are here. It’s gentle. Children are never expected to disclose. They find many of the children connect instantly with the program. They pick up on it being a support program, not counselling. They like the structure, they like being in a group and developing a relationship with the other children. They like the safe space. They don’t feel they have to give.’’ #teachersday2023 #studentwellbeing #youthwellbeing See Insights and Ads Boost post Like Comment Share

We can learn something from a small town in Idaho. Investing in early childhood education - with a goal of universal access, with a shared, collective commitment - can work in any community, any community willing to align resources with shared values. Why not Columbus? Why not Central Ohio? Early childhood education is the best possible investment we could make in a vibrant future for our communities - thriving children developing into their best selves for our better collective future. “So if you invest in early childhood, you are going to see better fall kindergarten [readiness] rates. You’re going to see families who know where to go for resources. You’re going to see children thriving.” https://lnkd.in/gqnD3VNz
