What an extraordinary day for resilience workers. What an honor to have U.S. Acting Secretary Julie Su join Resilience Force to launch our breakthrough partnership between the immigrant workers who rebuild American homes after climate disasters, and top disaster restoration companies.
This week we signed the Partnership for a Resilient America with PuroClean and Signal Restoration Services to train thousands of workers. We are lucky to be partnering with visionary Mark Davis. It was great to have Robin Keegan from FEMA, Rachel Korberg from The Families and Workers Fund, and Max Bell Alper of North Bay Jobs with Justice (NBJWJ) join us!
🌎 Actions the American Red Cross is taking to address the climate crisis:
➡️ Enhancing large-scale disaster response services.
➡️ Growing our disaster teams to provide more relief.
➡️ Strengthening local partnerships to mitigate health, hunger and housing challenges.
➡️ Expanding our financial assistance programs.
Did you know $1 spent in disaster preparedness saves communities $13 in economic and cleanup costs? Our new report produced in partnership with Allstate and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce shows how investments in resilience can help protect our homes, jobs, and infrastructure for years to come.
“It’s critical that government and business decision makers at every level understand how such investments can improve the safety and strengthen the resiliency of their communities,” said U.S. Chamber Foundation Senior Vice President Marc DeCourcey.

"The drains are antiquated. The #infrastructure is antiquated. No one has did anything in the last 50 some odd years out here-- 'cause we've been here [for] 56. So as the climate changed more and more, the neighborhood went down more and more."
The latest episode of #RadicalImagination from PolicyLink (featuring Taproot Earth and West Street Recovery!) covers the disaster recovery efforts of communities and frontline organizations in the Gulf South, the power of advocacy and grassroots organizing, and the potential for radical change through collective action.

Happy Independence Day!
As we celebrate our nation's freedom and autonomy, let's also reflect on the broader concept of independence—socioeconomic independence.
Our communities continually demonstrate remarkable resilience to extreme weather events, such as Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean, flooding in the Midwest, and wildfires out west. But true socioeconomic independence requires more than just bouncing back. It involves creating sustainable systems that withstand and adapt to challenges.
Despite the complexities of our current political climate, there are immense opportunities for unity and collaboration. Tools like the SustainImpact Navigator and SouthStar Analytics play a crucial role in this journey by bringing communities together and uplifting every voice.
This July 4th, let's commit to building a future where resilience leads to lasting prosperity. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter, more independent future for all.

Resilience in America takes a step forward today. It's a big day for the Climate Resilience Fund and communities across the country that need support finding solutions to the complex challenges of climate challenges and building resilience for the long-term.
We are excited to share the announcement by the White House and NOAA of the Climate Smart Communities Initiative (CSCI), made in advance of this afternoon's “White House Summit on Building Climate Resilient Communities.”
This promising new initiative will be developed and managed by our team here at the Climate Resilience Fund with our partners at EcoAdapt, Fernleaf, Geos Institute and ICF. The CSCI will help communities across the country that are at the highest risk to climate impacts and have the most need for assistance plan for the future. So if you are a climate professional, community leader, or philanthropic funder, and especially if you are working in a FEMA Community Disaster Resilience Zone, please follow our new page here on LinkedIN and sign up now at https://lnkd.in/gNgiRMYA for updates on how to participate in the CSCI.

🌐 New Resource Alert: FEMA’s Guide for Equitable Post-Disaster Recovery 🌐
It is a foundational tenet that all disasters and initial disaster response are local. As disasters scale and draw on the ever-expanding support and resource infrastructure defined by the National Response Framework, the responsibility for equity also scales. To that end, all levels of disaster response and recovery have an important role in ensuring equity. FEMA’s recent publication of the Guide for Equitable Post-Disaster Recovery is designed to support State and Local government agencies in continuing to weave equity into the fabric of their plans, projects, responses, and recovery efforts. Notably, FEMA’s guide is one more step toward building equity prior to disasters happening by building in resilience through the recovery phase.
🔍 Why This Matters:
Accessibility in Action: The guide provides concrete steps to ensure recovery plans reach and include diverse populations, focusing on the needs of underserved communities.
Inclusive Decision-Making: Offers a framework for ensuring that resource distribution during recovery is equitable, empowering all community voices.
Fairness First: Strategies to maintain impartiality in recovery efforts are outlined, emphasizing fairness for every segment of the community.
As crisis management experts, we recognize the guide’s practicality and depth. It’s an essential tool for disaster recovery planning—promoting stronger, more inclusive community rebuilding.

As we celebrate our nation's freedom, it's crucial to reflect on socioeconomic independence and the resilience of our communities.
This year, we face challenges like Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean, flooding in the Midwest, and wildfires out west. These events highlight the balance between resilience and lasting prosperity.
Despite political differences, natural disasters demand a unified response, revealing our shared desire to protect our families and homes. True socioeconomic independence requires more than resilience—stable employment, healthcare, education, and resource management.
By investing in sustainable development and addressing the root causes of vulnerability, we can ensure that unity born from crises leads to lasting prosperity.
Consider these facts:
- Over 50% of Americans live in areas prone to natural disasters.
- Infrastructure investments could save $6 for every $1 spent on disaster mitigation.
- Communities with robust social systems recover faster and more effectively.

Our 2023 State of the Sound report, published today, includes information about the health of Puget Sound, progress in the recovery effort, highlights of recovery accomplishments, and a call to action. The report shows that we’re making progress when we work together to make direct change. For example, when Tribal, federal, state, and local decision-makers restore habitat in estuaries and floodplains. We need to do more.
