โThe work isnโt done in one day, but every day is a new beginning.โ ๐โ โ Planting trees to uplift the Hill Tribes in Thailand is a powerful blend of environmental revival and poverty relief. Through the magic of agroforestry, we're restoring landscapes ravaged by decades of unsustainable farming.โ Supporting Thailand's Hill Tribes through agroforestry is more than just restoring nature; it's about uplifting communities and restoring hope. This week, we are following a translocation that will see 23 elephants moved from Maputo National Park's buffer zone, where they face significant risk due to human-wildlife conflict, to Zinave National Park where they will have the space to thrive. Park Warden, Miguel Gonรงalves, explains that the crops and fields of the communities that live in the buffer zone are under constant threat of crop-raiding by elephants. As elephants arenโt known to be โtidy eatersโ by any stretch of the imagination, a single elephant can uproot and destroy hectares of fields in minutes โ something that would have taken these small-scale farmers months to grow. This results in already poor farmers losing their entire harvest. Unfortunately, the reality is that to protect their livelihoods, many of these... (continue in the link) https://lnkd.in/gB5JrwXe

Over the past few years there has been a rise in the global demand for collectable โornamentalโ plants. South Africaโs Succulent Karoo Biome, which stretches from Southern Namibia into South Africaโs Northern Cape and Western Cape, is home to many of these desirable plant species and this region has recently become heavily targeted by plant poachers to supply the insatiable demand of overseas markets.

I recently spotted ๐ palm oil as an ingredient of a cookie in a European zoo. Palm oil is associated to deforestation. ๐ฃ That zoo is financing reforestation programs in the tropical forest. To obtain palm oil ๐ด, millions of hectares of tropical forest in southeast Asia have been systematically burned to make room for palm oil plantations. The zoo also hosts orangutans in their facility. Orangutans are among the first victims of palm oil deforestation in southeast Asia. โ Should I continue describing this paradoxal situation ? ๐ Here are some key recommendations to address palm oil-containing food in zoos. Remember : Practice what you preach ! ๐ฝ๐ข #zoo #sustainableeating #conservation #deforestation #foodchoices

The "๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ญ๐'' in #PortoTolle is among the most striking examples of segments of land which have slipped into the sea. A large rice farm, which was in use from the 1970s, has sunk almost 3 metres (nearly 10ft) below sea level and was abandoned in the 1990s. Another example is the vanishing "๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ข๐" along the #Po della Pila, one of the smaller channels within the wider delta. โThere were embankments and dirt roads to reach the countryside. On Sundays, the holiday, I came here with my father by bicycle. The sea has taken everything backโ In 2022, which had a particularly dry summer, this salt wedge extended more than 40km (25 miles) inland from the Adriatic Sea. Last year, when there was more rain, the salt wedge spread for 17km (10 miles). Full Article: 'The sea has taken everything': How Italy's coast was reclaimed โก๏ธhttps://lnkd.in/djX8fnAj

Love this!!!! Talk about the Circular Economy in Action!
Bricks ๐งฑ from invasive seaweed? There is no waste. You might have seen it on beaches, especially in N-America and the Caribean. Sargassum seaweed. It's not pleasant if you want to swim through it. โก๏ธ However a local entrepreneur is seeing the opportunity. โก๏ธ Turning "the sargassum" into Sargablocks . โก๏ธ Construction materials from this brown algae which normally cost the tourism industry a fortune in cleaning costs. During my most recent visit to a remote village engaged in harvesting Boswellia trees for research purposes, I was profoundly demoralized by the living conditions endured by the community. The absence of basic amenities such as electricity and water struck me deeply. It was truly incredible to witness a community living in such stark contrast to those responsible for harvesting one of the most valuable tree resins, frankincense essential oil. The international communities that purchase these essential oils is known for being progressive, focusing on holistic well-being encompassing the mind, body, and soul. However, I couldn't help but ponder whether they are fully aware of the origins of the essential resources they hold dear. Could they champion the cause of fair trade, eliminating intermediaries and engaging directly with the community involved in the labor-intensive process? We all need to become an advocate for appropriate prices for the community's hard work by ensuring they receive their rightful share. Numerous companies and people share this sentiment but often lack the means to communicate directly with communities in remote areas like Somalia. It's upon each of us to take it upon ourselves to become a voice for voiceless communities. In the current global landscape, there exists a significant interest in conserving frankincense trees of the Boswellia genus, given the diverse range of potential threats to their existence. Yet, the available information is insufficient to make informed decisions regarding conservation, sustainability, and climate adaptation. Among these threats, the intensity of resin harvesting driven by international trade has been identified as a prominent and escalating concern. We must address current imbalances and move toward a more fair and sustainable future for these sometimes overlooked contributors. #essentialoils #frankincense #maydi #boswellia #conservation #restoration #naturebasedsolutions
