Inclusive Marketing Expert & Consultant 👋🏾 | Supporting Brand Leaders in Creating Impactful and Inclusive Work via My Consultancy, Backstory 🤝 | 10+ Years of Inclusive Marketing & Storytelling ✨
This is what *equitable* partnership looks like. I’ve long been a fan of the work Evelynn Escobar has done with Hike Clerb Inc, and their upcoming collaboration with The North Face is the perfect example of an industry great teaming up with an impact organization to let them create on *their* terms. Many of our brand clients at Backstory Consulting come to us looking for ways they can equitably support the work of non-profits and charitable organizations. Doing so requires a special mix of thought, strategy, and intention that’s hard for most brands and companies to do on their own. 💡 We always recommend starting with: 1. Identifying 3-5 causes you can responsibly and sustainably support 2. Identifying organizations and non-profits already doing great work in that space 3. Partnering with an impact agency or consultancy (👋🏾) to develop an equitable outreach strategy Please support the amazing work Hike Clerb Inc is doing, and this forthcoming collaboration! Impact matters. #impact #DEIB #inclusivemarketing #brandcollaborations #brandstrategy
Seven years of planting the seeds 🌰, nourishing community 🌱and putting in the work 🤝🏾, we’re reaping the fruits of our harvest. 🤲🏾 The North Face x Hike Clerb Inc 4.9.24

There are many short coming in the cannabis industry compared to traditional food manufacturing. While it’s been great to see cannabis companies adopt GMP policies, I wonder how effective these measures actually are. Is anyone monitoring GMP compliance in cannabis production? Does being GMP certified in the cannabis space actually mean anything? Trulieve says they are “cGMP certified”. However Kim Rivers can be seen improperly wearing a hairnet throughout this video. It’s hard to trust that Trulieve is producing a clean product when the company chooses to showcase a video of their CEO wearing a hairnet ineffectivly while in a production area. Any thoughts on GMP compliance in the cannabis space?
We are grateful for CEO Kim Rivers’ inspiring visit to our Camp Verde grow in Arizona 💚🌿 Together, we're cultivating greatness. #TrulieveGrows

There are two ways to view streetscape trees. On the one hand, the streetscape is a public space, and the trees planted there belong to the entire community and are a valuable public resource, no different than the trees planted in a neighborhood park. In that regard, no resident has a right to damage or remove a public tree, they don’t get a veto over public green space. The other way of looking at this is that a tree planted in a sidewalk tree pit or planting strip in front of someone’s house also impacts those residents. A sound community engagement approach centers the residents of a community and cedes a degree of decision-making to the community. There are valid arguments for both approaches. In my experience, engaging with stakeholders, and getting buy in from the residents who are directly impacted by trees is a better approach. It is far better to engage with stakeholders, and perhaps plant a few less trees, and have buy-in and support from the neighborhood. The trees planted will be wanted and better cared for than those that are arbitrarily planted without community support.
Public engagement discuss…. I’m asking the question here of the engaged professionals on LinkedIn. Having heard from tree officers and arboriculturists about the thousands of enquires that they get from the public wanting trees removed because of perceived threats or experienced nuisance; Having tried to facilitate consultation processes around trees where the parties had no desire to allow space in their own minds to comprehend one another’s drivers, needs or perceptions; Having met with members of the public, protesting about a felled tree who said to me “I want to make the tree consultant feel the pain that I feel”; But also having been involved with and seen brilliantly successful tree schemes that have engaged the public and delivered for everyone; I photographed this tree today with a paradigm in my head of what story it would tell. However, it turns out that it tells a slightly different story than is implied by my preceding list. But I’ll share that later, for now I am interested in people’s thoughts… #trees #treeplanting #publicengagement #protest #council #streets #streettrees #arboriculture #vandalism #treeofficer #iliketreesbut

According to the attendees of the Co-Liv Summit in 2022, the challenge with the highest priority for their organization was fostering authentic communities within communities. 🏘️🤝 The task of creating real connections between residents and fostering a sense of belonging is no small feat. But it's vital - it's what turns houses into homes, tenants into families, and shared spaces into thriving communities. What challenge has the highest priority according to you?
