Coaches - understanding motivation is a critical coaching skill. First rule of motivation...you can't motivate anyone to do anything that they don't in some way already want to do. Big myth is that coaches can motivate kids to want to play football or motivate athletes to want to be successful. Doesn't work any more than believing you can motivate someone to want to eat steak when they want to eat chicken or make them want to travel to New York City when they want to go to London. Don't aim to motivate ....strive to seek and understand the true motivation of the kids you coach then provide them with the environment and the opportunity for their motivation to be fully expressed.

COACH T ON BASKETBALL: ✍️🏆 SYNOPSIS! The Bottomline, Coaching ain’t easy! It’s hard and difficult. There are so many facets you have to deal with, especially today. There is way too much access into your Program and Team. It’s hard to keep the noise outside of the inner workings of what your doing. The balance of what your working to achieve can be knocked off kilter way too easily. Outside interference is most prevalent and you have to constantly work to keep everyone on the same page. Sometimes that can feel like an impossible task for sure. Hidden agendas run rampant. It is the poison that can ultimately end the Journey if not controlled. You have to eliminate this at all cost, even if it means ending relationships! Difficult Decisions must be made. Players and the make up of a Team is fragile. It must be protected. Interference can effect performance in every way. You must take action to keep everyone where they must be to Succeed. No question about that. Coaching is hard! Most times the on court is the easiest thing a Coach does. When you understand that, You really have become a Coach. The Journey does present Challenges, but the Destination is like no other, if You can get there. Keep Working….. 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀

I've been running girls' batting focus sessions in South East Kent for the last 5 weeks. From a coaching point of view, it's been great to focus on one technical aspect of the game. I believe the girls have benefited from this too. Within the sessions we have also spent time working on running between the wicket and body language. The mental side to the game is almost as important (in some cases more so) than the technical side. I've spoken to the girls about taking a guard and also how they walk to the crease. Do they look confident? How do they stand as they take guard? Why do they take a guard? From an analysis point of view, I also filmed the girls hitting straight drives. However, I chose a side-on angle as I thought this would be easier to analyse. I wanted the girls to help spot what they were doing well and talk about how they could improve. The girls watched themselves back - again this takes confidence. It was really interesting to have the discussion with each girl and they were very good at telling me what they thought they needed to improve on. Common technical aspects included; point of contact with the ball, needing to bend their front knee more to get their head and shoulder into the shot. One of the biggest differences I have found when coaching girls as opposed to boys is how critical they are of their own ability. As I mentioned above, the girls were all able to tell me what they thought they needed to improve on. However, when I asked them what they did well or liked about their shots, they went quiet. As a coach, part of my role is building their confidence and every player has positives. Therefore, I helped point out the positives to each girl. Take a watch of the video and feel free to comment on the positives that you see. And of course, any coaching points too.

Manager at RealFITT Strength & Conditioning (Strength & Conditioning Coach and Accredited Exercise Physiologist)
When I reflect on my time at university, the thing I regret the most is not getting more coaching experience. When I graduated, I knew all of the theory, but I couldn’t coach. It probably took me a few years of coaching to feel like I had any clue what I was doing 😂 If you’re at university now, take it upon yourself to make sure you’re getting plenty of coaching experience, whilst you’re studying. Even if it’s just coaching in a commercial gym, that experience will be invaluable in the long run. #strengthandconditioning #strengthandconditioningcoach

Exercise and health in general is one of my main interests. It's been a few years since I took my personal trainer exam and now in December 2023 I added level 1 cycle coaching.
