What in the hell, Northwestern University? You are agreeing to protect the identities of people who appear to have committed crimes? Seriously? Our legendary debate coach, Scott Deatherage, aka the Duck, would be furious if he were still alive. FURIOUS. Northwestern, you literally ask people on the application to the school if they want to join the debate team. You smuggled in a reference to Northwestern beating Harvard back to back years in the damned Sports Illustrated cover story on Northwestern football back in 1995. (I remember; it was hilarious; you said NU “whipped” Harvard when NU won two times on 3-2 decisions.) Northwestern, you more than any other school understand the value of debate and the free exchange of ideas. The criminal behavior by encampment protesters is completely antithetical to that core value. These protesters seek to shut down debate and intimidate those who disagree. And now, you coddle them and embrace their total hostility to a core Northwestern value. Until you change course, Northwestern, I would appreciate it if you refrain from mentioning the two championships I helped win for you. Take those things off your debate laundry list. I want no part of it. Seriously: don’t refer to the 1998 or 1999 NDT championships. I would also ask that you no longer publicly display the championship trophies from those two years. I cannot believe this. But it just goes to show you that the rot runs far and wide.

I get so geeked out when people find creative, alternative ways to solve a problem. The (pretty smart) Yale Bulldogs had a conundrum. Their team qualified to play (on a last min shot in their conference tournament, no less) in the NCAA tournament. Except there was an issue. The team was slated to play waaaay out in Washington state - a long haul from New Haven, CT - and it was Yale’s spring break. So when their pep band couldn’t make the trip, instead of the team having no band, instead they contacted the University of Idaho’s band director (U of I is just a short 90 min drive to the venue.) They asked them if they could “stand-in” for Yale as their band. Thats when the now-called “Vandogs” stepped in and became Yale’s surrogate band. And, well, it worked. Yale won their first game in a major upset, beating the #4 seeded Auburn Tigers!!! There are always going to be challenges and walls and “I just can’t”s, but remember there is the normal (often seemingly impossible) solution. …. and then there is the creative, authentic solution. And many times, those solutions are even better than doing “normal.” Link to the full article from ESPN in the comments. P.S. I have so many stories like this one that I’ve compiled in my next book, The 50% Rule, and that I can’t WAIT to come out in October. #ncaa #yale #band #authenticity Yale University University of Idaho

We know teaching the events of January 6, 2021—which are not a “moment,” but the product of a long history—presents a familiar, yet unusually urgent, challenge: how can students use historical knowledge and thinking to understand recent crises? Here are some resources that might help.

Yes, indeed. We had a robust conversation from a variety of perspectives. It was a great cerebral start of the homecoming weekend. The call was made, and the insightful responses were delivered. Kudos to the BisonHonors.com coordinators and Howard University School of Business Professor Abhijit Roy for the invite and hospitality. #sportslaw #SportsBusinessManagement #nameimageandlikeness #NILs #policymaking #lobbying #studentathletesrights #wealthcreation #entrepreneurship #brandmanagement #publicityrights
What are best practices in the name, image, and likeness (“NIL”) realm? Mason Ashe was thrilled to serve as a panelist at Howard University’s “Get Up on Game: All about Name, Image & Likeness” on October 18 at Howard University School of Business in Washington, D.C. He joined EDGERRIN JAMES (Retired Pro Hall of Fame Football Player; One Sports Agency), Lita Rosario-Richardson (Shulman Rogers; American University), Qui James (One Sports Agency; Qui James Law Collective), Andrea Holmes Thompkins (Ace Media Corp) and Teri Smith (NFL Players Association) to discuss pitfalls to avoid, money management, and transitioning from college to pro. #nil #nameimagelikeness #sportslaw

I'm always excited to learn of new things that are being made in my home state of Indiana. Take a quick look and vote for the "Coolest Thing Made in Indiana": https://lnkd.in/gbddp6Hw Two questions: 1) What are your top 3 from the list? 2) What are the top 3 that didn't make the list? My thoughts in the comments below.
