Happy Doctors Day - What i learnt from Doctors during my BMT journey 1. Heightened Awareness with equanimity Doctors have this incredible level of awareness that enables them to come to the root cause of the problem much faster than any other profession. Alongwith it, they also have a phenomenal level of equanimity to handle stressful situations and make sound decisions. 2. Continuous learning & reach out Doctors have this amazing ability to be at the cutting edge of their science. You can see them writing papers, presentations, research, discuss, debate even after they are above 65, when most people call it the retirement age. Doctors can reach out to anyone in their community anytime. It's probably the only community in the world that can come together on a common platform and learn from each other. I wonder, why patients don't come together like this? 3. Sensitive & compassionate Doctors are extremely sensitive, just that they are very poor at showing their emotions. working so closely with doctors, we've seen them hiding tears, walking away without talking, sulking, angry when they lose a patient. Behind the scenes is something one rarely gets to see. But when you do get a glimpse, the respect only grows about this clan. 4. Doctors love life Just like a great businessman, they also have their idiosyncrasies. For example, Cars, Bikes, Paintings, Holidays, etc. They really value life because they have very little time off from their work and when they take it, its full on masti. 5. Calculative and foresighted Doctors are probably the best fund managers after CA's (Pun Intended). They research their trends, talk to the best in class, invest wisely and grow their wealth. Just like their science of trending DNA studies, treatments, research papers, diagnostics, etc, they keep moving on with trends, they are never stagnant in their practice. Many people have many things to say about this clan, good, bad, etc, but everyone appreciates what they do and what they mean to us, Patients. When the whole world seems ending, life coming to standstill, time is ticking and body is losing its will to live, Doctors stand out like this only ray of hope for millions around the world. This was the core basis for Bridge Oncology https://lnkd.in/gB9yVNDF University Hospitals took the right approach to sustainable change. Clinician leadership must drive the initiative. Being cost effective and adding value without compromising quality is achievable and sustainable. Proactive approaches to payer policies and current fee for service models can be reimagined. The reform must be owned and starts with the providers. Too many are focused on the cuts and passing the blame on “control” issues. We have heard this over and over in radiation oncology- prior auth, hypofractionation, MPFS cuts etc. A shift only occurs when you focus on what you can control. Bridge Oncology, like University Hospitals, saw what we could change in the current model. Combine that with a committed team of providers, clinicians, and data and results happen.
