"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Tim 1:7
"We really like your RV, but can you give us a discount?" A Dad and his son are going on an epic 16 day roadtrip and they want to take our RV. They are going to the Mighty 5 National Parks in Utah and going to the Grand Canyon. Father / Son trip. So cool. He asked all kinds of great questions. Then came the ONE. "We really like your RV, but can you give us a discount?" Instead of saying yes, I said let me look into it and I will hold the RV for you while I do. In an effort to increase off-season rentals, we were already offering a 10% discount. And because the length of stay, another 8%. Already discounted by 18%. How about the competition? They are all about $35-$50 more per night. So, I went back and said we could not offer more of a discount, gave the Father the math above and the comparison to the competition. IT WAS HARD. I felt like - What if we lose this rental? What if they decide not to go on this trip? But, I also knew they were getting a great price and our RV is worth renting. When I told him, I also brought up that our deposit is lower than most and refundable if nothing occurs during the trip. Because of HOW I explained everything to him and because I went above to hold it for him, they came back and RENTED IT today. Here is the lesson: 1) Always care about your customer first. 2) Truly research their requests. 3) Be transparent and authentic, even though you are telling them no. 4) Offer something more (like holding the RV). 5) Have an irresistible offer (like an amazing RV that is perfect for roadtrips like this!) #Rvrental #smallbusiness #customerservice #negotiations
