My inspiring daughter has an extra chromosome. She has a disability called Down syndrome that makes it MUCH more difficult for her to do most things. And even though it's unfair and frustrating, the world, generally speaking, does NOT accommodate for Julia's unique needs and interests. But in spite of this, my daughter is not: - Less motivated - Less accountable - Less confident - Less ambitious - Less determined - Less curious - Less fulfilled The takeaway? There's a whole bunch of stuff we CAN control, even when things are unfair and hard. Embrace that stuff. Be more like Julia. #motivation #leanin #Downsyndrome
You can probably add a few more to your daughter’s list like loving, accepting, and persevering. One of my sweet granddaughters lived in a Columbian orphanage for the first four years of her life before my son and daughter-in-law adopted her. She has CDL. Though she has limitations, she can do something few can do: light up the room without saying a single word. Children like your daughter and my granddaughter have abilities far superior to other’s. I’m grateful for people with special abilities like them.
Wow, your daughter Julia sounds like an amazing person! It's inspiring to see how she faces challenges head-on, especially in a world that doesn't always accommodate her needs. Her attitude is a powerful reminder for all of us that we can control our mindset and approach to life's hurdles. Julia's determination and curiosity are qualities we could all benefit from cultivating. Have you found any specific strategies that help Julia stay so positive and motivated? I bet many of us could learn from her approach, both in our personal lives and in our professional journeys on LinkedIn.
My 28 year old son has DS and is thriving in sports, community theater and a 7 year career at a restaurant
She is an inspiration to many. Would love to meet her one day ❤️
This post totally made my Friday! Julia is a force to be reckoned with.
Great post about an inspirational woman! Embrace the hard things. Control what's in your control. Take on the world with everything you have.
This is by far the best message I’ve read all week. Be more like Julia!!
Love Julia’s TikTok!

1moInspiring! When my son Samuel went waterskiing the first time for this year (like anything else he does) he said, ‘I’ve got this’ and ‘I never quit’. That attitude is a mantra we all can learn from. He’s President of his School, leads drumming classes for his music teacher, MC’s school events, befriends and helps out other kids at school, etc. because he doesn’t see any barriers and keeps moving forward…onward and upward!
