Another fantastic KIT day done 💚 This is my 5th KIT day and although I love them, they obviously come with pros and cons. Firstly the pros… 1. You get paid 💵 Stat maternity doesn’t stretch that far. 2. Being yourself and someone other than a mum for the day. I did my hair and makeup and everything! 💁🏻♀️ 3. Human interaction! Having an adult conversation about something other than nap schedules and nappies 😅 And then the cons… 1. Mum guilt 😭 2. Feeling half in, half out. You want to get involved and help, but there’s not much you can do in just a few hours ⏰ 3. Feeling your own absence. Musings on maternity leave: Tomorrow (4 March 2024) I’ll be back in office! Let’s be honest, going on Mat leave or any long absence working in a client and service based profession is difficult. Will they forget about me? Will I become obsolete ? Will they find someone better? How will I juggle all of this and work? These are the questions that plague you at random times changing nappies and through night time feeds. These thoughts are usually easily quietened by a little giggle or cuddle to remind me what is important. My babies have taught me empathy, patience and compassion beyond any textbook or case I’ve worked on.  I’ve done this mat leave thing twice now and leaving your babies at home does not get any easier but… I am so excited about this next chapter and what can be achieved and built over the next few years in my career as a shipping lawyer and mama!  Looking forward to connecting with all my clients, colleagues and friends. #shipping #lawyer #maternityleave #careergoals #workingmum

Friendly reminder: A team member taking extra time off after her baby is born doesn’t necessarily mean she’s looking to be a long-term stay-at-home-mom. If she’s a valued employee, stay in touch so she knows the door is always open if/when she wants to return to work. And while we’re on the topic, don’t take it personally if she does exit after maternity leave comes to an end. She’s prioritizing her family and personal well-being, which is a decision that should be praised, not criticized. Today holds a mix of emotions as it marks the end of my maternity leave. MATERNITY LEAVE Such a happy time, but so many mums have that dread of having at some point to leave their precious baby & go back to work. Handing them over to someone else every morning, maybe missing out on those precious firsts, certainly missing out on valuable time, because, let's face it, kids grow up so quickly.. We say it so much, but it's so true. What if it didn't have to be that way? Why not build up a business around nap time & feeds so that you can either go back to part time work or not have to go back at all. Its exactly what I did!!!! And what so many other lovely mums I work alongside have done. Lis has just become a new mum & it has totally changed her perception of work & life.
