Jumping on the bandwagon here.. June 12th 2023 is a day that flipped my world upside down. Myself, along with 300 (give or take) of the top performing Pinterest team were unexpectedly laid off. As we all tried to navigate what came after, we leaned into each other, chased to find new roles in an incredibly competitive market, and tried to find something to keep our days busy; we all felt the change, and the massive, abrupt hole that was left. To my friends and colleagues, I’d love to know: Where are you now? What do you do for work? What doors opened for you when that one closed? I have never felt more blessed to look back on my time with the Pinterest team, all the amazing people, and massive amounts of knowledge from each individual. I have learned so much and have been able to apply that in my own self-made marketing adventure, as well as to my own life. Here are just a few things I have taken away from my time at Pinterest that I think apply to life in general very well: * Always ask, even if you think they’ll say no. You miss every opportunity you don’t take. * Having fun while doing ‘work’ IS very much a possibility, it’s all about mindset. * You can and will find friends in the most unlikely places (almost everywhere you go.) * Growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone. * And finally, in order for you to ‘level up’, you have to finish the previous level and walk on to the next. All of this very text heavy post can be summed up by this quote I always grew up hearing: Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. I’m so profoundly glad I got my time with all of you, with Pinterest, and with the smb businesses and agencies I had the pleasure to work with. Cheers to all of your success now and in the future. 🥂🥂

“she lives in daydreams” Starting my Pinterest journey was like creating my own little universe, one pin at a time. It began as a personal endeavor, but recently it’s evolved into a small community where people engage with my content, whether for inspiration or enjoyment. The beauty of Pinterest lies in its ability to connect like-minded individuals, fostering a sense of belonging and creativity. Witnessing others resonate with my pins has been incredibly rewarding, fueling my passion to curate more. Moreover, what sets Pinterest apart from other social media platforms is its refreshing departure from the pressures of constant obsession over likes or views; it's simply a space where I express myself authentically without any expectations. It's a liberating feeling to create content solely for my own enjoyment and fulfillment. As I delve deeper into this world of creativity, I'm reminded of the importance of self-care and doing things just for myself. If you've been contemplating starting your own digital sanctuary, let this be your sign – dive in, explore, and craft your own small world on Pinterest :) P.s. what's something you do for yourself?

Usually, Pinterest has a reason why they do something. Before you grown... and take things personally, I want to share something with you. I am lucky enough to be able to personally communicate with Pinterest staff members. That means I am aware of upcoming changes and also get additional details on the *why*. Yesterday and today, I was having a great conversation with some folks in my free Facebook community (9K strong and growing!). Why was something removed and being taken away from us? Sometimes we may feel its a big change or a 'bad' change for us... Maybe we liked it as business owners (often we make biased decisions on things that we think favour us) but the reality is, features are often removed because they are not being engaged with by our audiences on Pinterest. What does this mean? It means REGULAR people (not us, not small biz owners, creators or marketers) didn't really care about that feature. Pinterest employees TONS of employees to study usage. How are regular people using Pinterest. What do they seem to like? what results in retention? what results in conversion? I know change is hard. But the reality is, when changes are made it is for the BETTERment of the experience of the end user - your audience, your subscriber, your buyer, your fan.

It's different on Pinterest. Let's discuss. Take off your marketing hats and let's talk about what makes Pinterest different. Do you agree? I want to hear from you. This is what I think makes Pinterest a little different ✔️A focus on inspiration, aspiration, a place to collect ideas and make plans ✔️A place that supports, fosters and celebrates our differences ✔️In the best way possible, it allows introverts to flourish (no need to be loud and front facing constantly) ✔️Search is a quiet super power in a world of noice ✔️Long term rewards for being consistent - sure over night virality is sexy but want is exciting today dies off quickly... Pinterest can be the opposite. Quiet today and growth for months and years ✔️Mostly unbranded search gives the 'little' guys lots of opportunity ✔️Content that is lifestyle focussed from day one
