It was about 30 years ago that I first attended an HL7 meeting, and I’ve been energized and passionate about interoperability standards since then. Open standards play a crucial role in HIT allowing health to transcend sites, settings, and institutions of care, through to the patients themselves. I presently have the honor of being a Director in Health Level Seven International, representing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. With your help, I’d like to continue in that role one more term. #HL7 does a lot of things right – global footprint, open process, engaged communities, massive #HIT presence. But there are things we can and should be doing to increase our impact: - #FHIR isn't new anymore. We need to build on its foundation and grow to what's next - Streamline and simplify HL7 processes to maximize value of "volunteer time" contributed to the organization - Address structural inconsistencies in HL7, maximizing equity across the organization and its affiliates - Improving transparency into HL7 processes to foster grassroots innovation - Advance professional peer communities-of-practice to build a professional home for sharing best-practices, experiences, and lessons-learned I’m running to make HL7 more business aligned and to reinforce HL7 as THE place to solve the hard HIT interoperability challenges. Via improved transparency, opening opportunities for a new generation of leaders, encouraging grassroots innovation, and relentless focus on stakeholder value, HL7 can achieve its potential. I’m running not for my resume, but to make a difference. Are my priorities yours, or am I missing something? Let me know in the comments below… #HL7 #openstandards #HIT #BPM #BPMplus
You definitely get my vote Ken Rubin! It is time for the healthcare ecosystem to embrace FHIR and all the efforts with HL7, BPM+, and OMG. Look forward to supporting your efforts.
I remember you were in charge of a meeting that we attended. I was very impressed with your energy and passion.
Well said Ken-you have driven significant change and deserve the opportunity to continue in the role you are in-

1moHi Ken. Good luck from one of the disenfranchised Affiliate Members. I enjoyed our time together on the Board and always valued your insights combined with a high level of professionalism. From an HL7 perspective, it's always good to see a competitive election with a bunch of excellent candidates - we just need to broaden the electorate!
