In a significant move that underscores the pivotal role of #education in Africa's developmental agenda, the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union made a ground-breaking decision earlier this month to adopt #education as the AU Theme of the Year 2024. The theme “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century” is a call to action for #governments, the #privatesector, and international #partners to invest in Africa's most valuable resource: its #people.
For decades, African economies have relied on #agriculture and the extraction of #naturalresources. While these sectors remain crucial, the future of #economic #growth in Africa lies in diversification across #manufacturing, #services, and #technology, amongst others. Educating and skilling the African #youth will open the door to new industries and opportunities, reducing dependency on traditional sectors and paving the way for a more #resilient and #dynamic economy.
Recognising that the 21st-century economy is increasingly #knowledgebased, demanding a wide range of skills, from #technicalproficiency to #softskills such as #criticalthinking, #creativity, and #adaptability, George Asamani, MBA, MD, Sub Saharan Africa, and Joanna Baidu, Youth Lead, Africa, Project Management Institute are in South Africa for an academic roadshow, supported by the PMI South Africa Chapter. The #team is going to have a dialogue with various academic institutions, like the University of Johannesburg, Stellenbosch University, and the University of Limpopo @ULVarsity, as well as STADIO Higher Education, Red & Yellow Creative School of Business, on the essence of #projectmanagement and its #transformative potential for young Africans.
Project management, as a discipline, is at the heart of any #developmental endeavor. For #Africa, a continent on the brink of a technological and infrastructural boom underpinned by #Agenda2063, the demand for skilled #projectmanagers will only grow. They are the #architects of change, transforming #visionaryideas into #tangiblerealities that propel societies forward.
The #roadshow is a testament to #PMI's commitment to nurturing the next generation of African #leaders equipped with the #skills to navigate and lead complex #projects. It's an invitation to be at the forefront of Africa's growth story, contributing to projects that have the power to #transform #communities, #economies, and the #continent at large.
