Everyone that knows me knows I’m committed to building sustainable yet affordable living spaces.
#DidYouKnow in 1926 and for decades after, the City of Birmingham, through a zoning ordinance, enforced race-based residential segregation to keep Black people from living in the same communities as white people? Our Chief Strategist Seth Embry sat down with Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) President and CEO DeJuana L. Thompson to discuss the history of Fair Housing in Birmingham and how implications of the city’s racial residential divide then continue to have adverse effects present-day. Watch the full conversation by visiting HABD.org or on our YouTube at https://lnkd.in/enTDgZEk. #FairHousingMonth #Birmingham #Affordablehousing #Historyfact #RacialDiscrimination #Housing

Juneteenth + Fair Housing = reasons to look back, look forward! Ten months after freedom came to enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865 — the occasion we remember as Juneteenth — Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the first federal law to call for racial equity in housing. Even at the dawn of emancipation, many already knew: freedom had to include fair housing. Our offices are closed in observance. But even as we look back, we look onward to securing fair housing for all. It’s our commitment not only to freedom, but to liberation. #Juneteenth #FairHousing #civilrightsact1866 #liberation

April is recognized as Fair Housing Month 🏡 to honor the Fair Housing Act, signed into law on April 11, 1968, just days after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ✊🏽 on April 4, 1968. Dr. King's staunch advocacy for civil rights and equal housing opportunities 🤝🏽 was a catalyst for this legislation, which was a crucial part of the broader civil rights movement 📜 aimed at addressing systemic racial discrimination, including in housing. Designating April as Fair Housing Month 📅 commemorates this critical law, educates the public on equal housing opportunities, and reinforces the ongoing commitment to combating housing discrimination. This dedicated month allows for a concentrated period of reflection, education, and action, which resonates deeply at a national level and draws significant attention from media and policymakers. The activities conducted during this month, such as workshops, seminars, and public campaigns, play a key role in increasing public awareness and spurring actionable change, while also highlighting the historical significance and the continuing relevance of the Fair Housing Act. #FairHousingMonth #HousingEquality #CivilRights #EndHousingDiscrimination #HousingJustice #EqualHousingForAll #FairHousingAct #CivilRightsMovement #MLKLegacy #FightForFairHousing

Purchasing an apartment is one of the most important steps a family takes, but when coop boards turn people down, they routinely refuse to provide reasons. Disclosing the reasons is a matter of simple fairness. The failure to disclose makes it too easy for coop boards to continue to discriminate in violation of the City’s Human Rights Law. That's why we're advocating for enactment of the Fairness in Cooperative Homeownership Act. Read more at bit.ly/CoOpFairness, and add your organization’s name to support the act at bit.ly/48lrIgG.

What is Justice? JUSTICE IS WHERE TRUTH AND VIRTUE MEET. EQUALITY stands firm, with no bias or prejudice swaying the balanced scales. FAIRNESS flows like transparent waters, guiding seekers toward justice. RIGHTS such as freedom of speech, assembly, and privacy are fiercely protected. ACCOUNTABILITY ensures that actions have consequences, with wrongs being reckoned. RESTITUTION transforms victims' tears into healing streams, offering compensation and hope. Social justice challenges inequities and builds bridges, creating a fair world. Join us in support of the #AccessToJustice #A2J justice campaign led by Legum Limited. Access to Justice is paramount in our society today, do not be left out. Tell your justice story here: https://lnkd.in/e8PAeHZ3

What action will you take?
To highlight 60 years since the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, we are looking at the President of the National Urban League, MARC MORIAL's report representing a lack of improvement in the topic of the racial wealth gap. It's a stark reminder of the work that still needs to be done to achieve economic equity for all. Let's use this information to fuel our commitment to actionable change. #WeavingImpact #RacialWealthGap #EconomicEquity #DataInsights

In the 5th series of the Philosophical Manifesto , the subject dealt with is the complex nature of justice. While advocating for full transparency, accountability and independence in the legal system, the manifesto emphasizes a restorative justice approach that addresses the causes of crime. The manifesto acknowledges ongoing challenges to secure justice for minority rights, non-human animals and the environment while raising awareness that economic justice matters !
