I'm seeing an interesting situation in the world of hiring accounting & finance professionals. Companies need to hire, yet are being conservative given the perceived economy. Candidates want to take on new roles but are hesitant to move. The result? The companies are that taking action right now are getting some incredible talent and the talent that is bold enough to make a move is getting some career-changing positions. The advice I always tell my clients (companies looking to hire) is that if you see good talent that could be a long-term fit for your organization, go after it! Make a strong offer and make it as soon as you've done the required due diligence given the role. My advice to the candidates I work with is that if everything major checks out in terms of: - Position - Location - Mentorship - Growth path - Learning challenges - Compensation (benefits included) Then take the role and don't overthink it. I started recruiting when we could only CALL candidates. I could not use LinkedIn much because there were only a few candidates and there was no artificial intelligence to help me with sourcing. So, I made 20-50 calls daily to find an interested candidate. It was tiring and sometimes frustrating. I was working from home and my babysitter who was taking care of my 9-month-old son from time to time gave me sympathetic looks. But I kept calling because I had to find THAT tax consultant! And I did. It was BEFORE the IT ERA. The skill to hire finance people helped me a lot when we started hiring for Tech companies. Because we knew how to hire a CFO, financial controller, chief accountant, auditors, and tax consultants... Recruiters' tools have changed, but skills have not.
