McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm founded almost a hundred years ago, does a lot of remarkable things, many of which you might already be aware of. What you might not know, however, is that they also do an annual book list, with reading recommendations from top business leaders, academicians, editors and McKinsey’s own leaders. Their annual book list for 2023 includes books from various genres, including biographies and memoirs, business, history, innovation, politics, psychology, workplace culture and more. We thought the list, which includes recommendations from people who are heavy-hitters in their respective fields, is quite interesting. Still, there are book-readers who are truly serious. I am passionate about collecting heavy-hitters and reading them to storm my mind. Sometimes, I am disappointed about books missing certain truths that every human must know and follow in his or her life. We are changing fast. The fast changes signify our high-speed driving on dangerous roads. We need books that tell us boldly about the hidden dangers that our fast-changing lives bring every day. The climate crises, resulting in instability of ocean currents, ocean collapse, melting of polar ice sheets, rise in sea levels, the disasters the marine lives face, floods in some places and drought in other places, etc., make the world a dangerous place. We believe every business that brings us better comfort succeeds. Every business, which fascinates us with new things and makes us adopt them grows. What we miss in the storm of change is the change in our habits. The habits become an addiction. The combination of these changes and addictions redefines the features of human beings. Incidentally, we miss the books that tell us nothing but bare truths.
