Light Science Technologies PLC (AIM:LST) (LSTH) CEO Simon Deacon speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive after the agricultural technology company released a trading update for the six months to 31 December 2023. Deacon reports 22% year-on-year growth in revenues despite industry-wide challenges due to the energy crisis. The company also successfully elevated its margin from 17% to over 22%, a crucial achievement post-pandemic. He attributes some of the progress made to a strategic focus on reducing overhead costs, which have fallen by around by 20% and enabled a sharper emphasis on core business and global opportunities, particularly in thriving regions like the Americas, the Middle East, and Australia. Embracing a partnership-driven approach, LSTH aims to expand its reach through collaborations with experts in glasshouse and vertical farm construction. Cincinnati Biochar In a Nutshell After my post about the Cincinnati Biochar Project last week, I wanted to go into more detail on what the project is and how it will work. Today’s post begins a series of posts to break it down in more depth. It all started with a grant from #BloombergPhilanthropies in 2022 to start a municipal biochar project. The vision that we created for the project hits several objectives in the recently updated #GreenCincinnatiPlan. The two young entrepreneurs came together based on their shared vision of a solution for the utilization and #storage of #CO₂. In 2020, neustark's first pilot plant was integrated into the production line of an established concrete producer. Today, various concrete producers store CO₂ with one of neustark's mobile plants and produce concrete that is used both in private and public construction projects. The first day of the inaugural NYC OceanTech Summit was a great success, thanks to the efforts of Jake Russell from Propeller, Will Lutz and Delaney Demark. Innovator's Day featured inspiring new ventures and research in sectors such as shipping, like: Newlight's hydrogen injection retrofit for marine vessel engines, CoFlowJetLift's cylindrical sail solution and Oxylus Energy's green methanol production system. Maine's Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences shared a promising approach that deploys microbes to capture mineralized phosphates from sources such as wastewater, and then in turn provide captured phosphates critical for fertilizers. Who knew we were approaching Peak Phosphate production? Several pitches focused on opportunities in treating hypersalty brine that is a problematic leftover of desalinatization processes. Other notable startups included the #microplastics filtering system from PolyGone, and Sinkco Labs working on biomemetic approaches to carbon sequestration. Many thanks also to the other pitch judges Susan Schofer from SOSV and HAX and Andrew Chang with Activate. Our goal in attending is to extend this #bluetech ecosystem-building effort in NYC to NJ, especially as the region continues to grow in areas including innovative #aquaculture, #offshore wind and all facets of a sustainable blue economy.

🚀 It's Official: Our Applied Science Network has set sail, Pioneering the Regenerative 🚀  - Yesterday was exciting as we officially launched our new Applied Science Network! We're grateful to Jenny Andersson from the Really Regenerative Center for kicking things off with an enlightening talk on 'What Does Regenerative Built Environment Mean?' We couldn't have asked for a better start!   The kickoff was just the beginning of our exploration into the theme of 'Towards a Regenerative Built Environment.' - our new initiative aimed at pioneering regenerative solutions in the built environment.   Jacob Rask, program manager, envisions the network as a clubhouse—an epicenter for transforming the built environment. He said: “By bringing together researchers, industrial professionals, and companies, the network will foster cross-pollination and knowledge sharing crucial for innovation and the green transition of the entire construction industry.”   The network, supported by Realdania, aims to bridge the construction industry by leveraging applied research as a catalyst for innovation.   We encourage all interested parties to participate in the network.
