Children with physical disabilities face unique challenges. They often require durable medical equipment (DME) like wheelchairs and walkers. However, as they grow, their needs evolve, and the cost of replacing outgrown equipment becomes a significant burden for their families. This is where Kids Mobility Network comes in. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, they provide a lifeline for these families. They collect outgrown DME, refurbish it, and match it to children who need it most. Through their efforts, they ensure that every child has access to the equipment they need to thrive and participate fully in their community. 🔹 How: Attend, sponsor, and spread the word! Q: Is the MECHANICAL DRAWING ✍️ or SHOP manufacturing class of the 21st century High School the “Design-LAB” 🥼 where students can earn a certificate in competency for documenting existing conditions around their community and a foundation for FUTURE INNOVATION?

STACK THE SHELF Appalachian School of Law is unique in terms of their community involvement. Each ASL student is required to collect 25 hours of community volunteer work each semester. Throughout the years, these hours have totaled many positive changes within the area. During her 1L year in 2021, Kelsey Hall started the ASL Stack the Shelf project. This project collects basic school supplies and personal hygiene items, then takes them to local high schools in Buchanan County. Currently, the project provides supplies to Twin Valley High, Grundy High, Council High, and Hurley High. There are future plans to expand the project to the local elementary schools. The project started with donations within the ASL community, but those doors have been opened to accept monetary and product donations from the community and local businesses. At the end of the year, Kelsey will display a banner within ASL, listing the names of all the individuals and organizations that have donated to the project. Phi Alpha Delta on campus is in the process of adopting the project as part of their organization, so this project will continue long after Kelsey has graduated. We are proud of the work she has done, and the small differences she has made that feel big to so many. Stack the Shelf collects: Pens, pencils, spiral notebooks, folders, lined paper, small packs of tissues, ChapStick, travel sized shampoo, travel sized bodywash, travel sized men and women’s deodorant, travel sized toothpaste, and toothbrushes. What is the value of ”Take Your Daughter to Work Day? We think it is education and empathy, so the child knows what the parent does daily, but it is so much more. It instills lifelong work values. Meahgan Gibson attended a “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. To this day she reminds me of a few choice words I stated during a staff meeting but she also pursued a career in Leisure and Hospitality. More importantly she picked up values like; everybody is critical to success (especially the lowest paid hourly associates), every person has a story, treat people with dignity and respect, and if they have a name tag, user their name. Grow by trying new things that others shy away from. Powerful words are “thank you” and “can you help me”, and assisting others even if you do not have time.  Today this was in my feed. I had no idea she was working on this.  Biscuits and socks, who knew? But more importantly, a young professional (from a generation many professionals belittle) leading a project that reflects well on the brand and does good for the community. Also hats off to Dennis Pfaff, Maple Street Biscuit Company and Cracker Barrel for creating an organization culture where young professional growth occurs. Take your daughter to work and as a leader, your relationships matter more than you know. #cio #leadership

Flipping it forward is in our DNA

It's been some time since posting here but I would be remiss not to use this opportunity to share about a cause near and dear to my heart. As some of you may know, I have been on the After School All Stars (ASAS) board for almost 2 years. ASAS Puget Sound provides free, comprehensive after-school and summer programs that keep students safe and help them succeed in school and life. We are raising funds for After-School All-Stars Puget Sound through our annual year-end appeal. ASAS is one of the country's largest nonprofit organizations working to close the opportunity gap for low-income youth. If it wasn't for ASAS, these students could potentially be in unsafe environments or home-alone at a young age. By ethnicity, the top two groups we serve are Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx and Asian American populations - populations that are historically underserved. My DEI people - the statistics tell the story, in order to pave the way for an equitable future and to level the playing field, we need to strive to support these communities. By contributing to our year-end appeal, you can help make a real difference in the lives of these incredible young individuals. Every dollar counts!
