We’ll face COVID-19 2.0 but rather than a bat/Wuhan Lab it’ll be created by a guy in his shed. Startups like ArgenTag and EvolutionaryScale, which are developing advanced genetic sequencing technologies and AI-driven molecule creation with rapid turnaround times, may inadvertently provide the building blocks for a new era of highly accessible, low-cost bioterrorism. This situation is reminiscent of how easily accessible software tools have enabled individuals to create hacking code from their laptops at home. 1. ArgenTag focuses on democratizing genomic sequencing through their development of cost-effective, instrument-free kits for single-cell and long-read sequencing. Their technology can perform sequencing in just a few hours, making high-resolution genetic analysis more accessible to a broader range of users. 2. EvolutionaryScale , on the other hand, is leveraging AI to accelerate the creation of new molecules and other biological constructs. This capability, combined with rapid sequencing technologies, significantly reduces the time and cost associated with genetic manipulation and bioengineering. Seems like entropy in the world is going up exponentially these days.

ViQi collaborated with Saguaro Biosciences on a poster at SLAS (Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening) 2024! Check out, Live Cell Painting: Drug Responses in Human Primary Patient Cells with a New Nontoxic Dye. Live cell imaging is the future of drug discovery and Saguaro's non-toxic ChromaLive dye is helping lead the charge. Because ViQi's AutoHCS can process any channel, this study is able to use our tools to evaluate drug responses in human primary patient cells for ~650 compounds. Importantly, our resulting compound clusters are validated by known mechanism of action. Can we process time courses for live cell imaging? Yes! We love opportunities where ViQi's work enhances those of others in the field. #innovation #collaboration #ai

What we do wouldn’t be possible without our talented ML team (and what they do wouldn’t be possible without our talented CDS and Experimental teams!). Our own Edward Williams was recently featured on the Valence Labs community blog highlighting the team's work on our “Contrastive Optimization for Accelerated Therapeutic Inference” or COATI model—a multimodal foundation model for small molecules, designed for enabling generative optimization of molecular properties. Check out his COATI tutorial here: https://lnkd.in/e2pKPqnU #machinelearning #ML #biotech #generativeAI #drugdiscovery

This is an interesting perspective. If a sequencer could act as, if not supplant, a qPCR machine, there would be obvious benefits. Taking it a step further, it would be especially useful in point-of-care diagnostics to triage diseases with similar symptoms. #sequencing #diagnostics #healthcare

Here are some highlights of the most interesting GenAI content from our Snapshot. GenAI is of growing importance to the biotech industry, particularly as its capabilities have accelerated in the over the last 12 months. We covered: · A collaboration between Iambic, Caltech, and NVIDIA that produced NeuralPlexer2, a model that predicts protein/ligand interactions given the protein sequence and the molecular graph of the ligand · Advances in predicting PK and PD, which are difficult to model due to the significant cost of generating training data; groups at Astrazeneca and GSK have published some promising initial results in this pursuit · Insilico’s idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis program, which has relied heavily on advancements in AI to produce a DC that has now successfully made it through phase 1 clinical trials · A lab at UC Berkeley that shed light on the biases protein database composition can impart on model performance, emphasizing the need to be critical of the data used to build these models Read the full Decoding Bio 2024 Snapshot here: https://lnkd.in/gSyY8Bjz
