Throughout my journey in healthcare, I've always advocated for patient-centric design (likely driving my clients insane at times) but always driven by a passion for equitable access and sustainable health solutions. Today, as we explore the evolving landscape of healthcare, it is great to see The Lancet Global Health Commission and their focus on people-centric care. People-centric care represents a much-needed evolution in healthcare delivery. It transcends mere treatment, prioritizing the holistic needs of individuals. This entails considering their cultural backgrounds, community dynamics, and unique requirements. At its essence, it's about honoring each person's story and journey. Moreover, it's about dismantling barriers to access, ensuring that healthcare is available to all who need it. This paradigm fosters collaboration between patients and providers, ultimately striving for improved health outcomes for everyone. Barriers to adaptation, availability, affordability, and adoption hinder access to vital medicines in LMICs. However, collaborative efforts have proven successful in diseases like HIV, malaria, and more recently in oncology and other specialty areas. Key Success Factors: 1. Enabling access to care and breaking down barriers across LMICs is something that I am extremely passionate about. While collaborating with multiple stakeholders surrounding the patient's ecosystem, we all had a common goal: bringing care closer to the patient and reducing health inequity. Telemedicine, while not new, is a tool that is able to do just that, bringing medical expertise to rural settings and reducing also the burden on over-stretched healthcare systems. Case studies like M-Tiba in Kenya, Vula Mobile in South Africa, and Babyl in Rwanda showcase tangilble impact of telemedicine in improving healthcare access and patient outcomes. However, there is always more to do - challenges such as network connectivity, digital literacy, and regulatory frameworks remain hurdles to widespread adoption. How can we address these challenges to ensure its sustainable implementation and maximize its impact on healthcare delivery in Africa?
