Two years ago today, UMSON's In UniSON anti-oppression position statement and commitments were introduced as a way to acknowledge the impact of structural racism and other forms of structural oppression on our country, communities, and School.
We continue to have ongoing conversations about not only our commitment but also our actions in support of that commitment. We recognize the importance of words, but even more important is what we do with those words. Today we ask: Will you join us in making a commitment to action?

As Arizona becomes increasingly diverse, the talk around diversity continues to grow, and the significance of diversity increases. However, Oscar De las salas argues that diversity is a statistic and means nothing if people do not learn to accept different cultures. De las salas, a proud Latino gay man who has been calling Arizona home for over two decades, says he chose to use acceptance because “[it] has a more soulful, drive meaning, and speaks to inclusion.” To learn more about what De las salas has to say about the role of acceptance in Arizona, click on the link down below!

As the last of the Pride parades fade into memory and the rainbow flags are tenderly folded away, a vital question lingers in the air, touching hearts and minds with a gentle yet urgent call. What will you do in the months after Pride to make the world a brighter, more inclusive place for everyone? This thought struck me as I walked through the vibrant celebrations across Boston, my heart full of gratitude for the freedoms we cherish and the progress we've made. Yet, as June gives way to July, the spirit of Pride beckons us not to pack it away but to carry it forward, transforming our collective joy into action. How can we extend this momentum beyond the confines of a single month and make every day a testament to love, acceptance, and unity?
Imagine a world where each month after Pride is dedicated to furthering the cause of equality and compassion—'Nourish Month' to feed our souls and the souls of others, 'Protect Month' to defend the rights and dignity of all, 'Nurture Month' to foster growth and well-being within our communities, and 'Care Month' to demonstrate empathy and support across divides. What role will you play in bringing these ideals to life? How will you contribute to building a safer, kinder, and more nurturing world for the generations to come?
The legacy of Pride is not confined to June; it's a living, breathing movement that thrives on our daily actions and commitments. It challenges us to ask not only how we can celebrate our pride but how we can live it out in ways that uplift and protect those around us. What will you do in the coming months to answer this call? Your actions, no matter how small, have the power to weave a tapestry of change that envelops the world in warmth, understanding, and inclusivity. #ActionAfterPride#LiveOutLoud#MakeADifferenceEveryDay#mirandism#unapologetic#unapologeticdude
What does it mean to be an ally in today's environment?
It may be more than you think. You don't need to identify as part of the community you stand by, you just need to show your support and help leverage the voices of those in said communities. During this Pride Month, hear what three self-identified Zebra allies say goes into allyship, what efforts can be done, and how to make sure your actions are in line with your words. https://lnkd.in/eNFeDHvN
Happy Juneteenth! Today, we join millions across the nation in commemorating Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history that marks the end of slavery in the United States. This day, also known as #FreedomDay or #EmancipationDay, is a celebration and reminder of resilience, liberation, and the enduring fight for justice and equality.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War and the emancipation of all enslaved people, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
WHY JUNETEENTH MATTERS
Juneteenth is more than a historical milestone; it is a call to action. It underscores the importance of acknowledging the past, understanding the systemic injustices that persist, and committing to the ongoing struggle for racial equity. For the construction industry, it is a time to reflect on our practices and policies to ensure they foster diversity, equity, and inclusion (#DEI).
