Hiring a person for your practice is much more than just filling an open position. It is creating a culture within your company. It is working and evolving an individuals skills and knowledge. It is growing your practice and trusting that individual with YOUR patients amd YOUR administration. Choose a candidate who has the qualifications but not passion and people skills, will definitely have an impact, in the wrong direction. Rather look for someone with an attractive attitude, one who is kind and compassionate towards your team and patients. Someone who is teachable and eager to grow. It's important to make decisions for the future and not necessarily for a season. I’m introducing a new series of posts where I’ll be sharing tools to help Candidates and Clients eliminate doubt in their hiring decisions. Yesterday, I had a Candidate ask me my thoughts on joining a big brand company vs. a smaller competitor company. We were specifically discussing the dental implant market, but you can apply this across market segments. On the subject of implant players, it all depends on the type of employment experience and sales experience you want in your next role. Larger is bigger brand awareness but non-disruptive. Larger is bigger healthcare benefits and a more traditional career trajectory. Promotions take longer to come by. Larger can mean less visibility which is great if you enjoy being one among many and don't necessarily need your impact to be felt by your employer or your coworkers. Smaller companies generally have lower brand awareness in the market making the selling roles more challenging than same roles in big-brand market leader companies. Smaller companies also may have smaller employee benefits packages which can weigh more heavily on a family budget . Conversely, smaller companies sometimes pay better than their larger competitors and provide more visibility for career-minded individuals in the organization. If you are seeking out a disruptive sales experience to add to your resume, you'll most likely find that in a smaller company vs a larger one. If you’re looking for career advancement, that may be attainable on a faster timeline in a smaller company vs a larger one.
