In this video, Washington Trust Bank Residential Loan Officer Joseph Portillo shares why getting a pre-approval is important and how it helps set you up for successful homeownership. He also shares what documents you will need to provide for pre-approval consideration. Washington Trust Bank is one of our five mortgage lender partners. Our Rooted at Simpson housing lottery will open on July 15th, and you may have questions regarding how it works. RootedHomes employs a lottery system to randomly select recipients with specific prioritization criteria. Applicants can earn up to four lottery points based on three qualifications: • First-time homebuyers classified as first-generation (meaning neither you nor your parents do not own property in the United States) receive one preference point. • Housing Works clients, including Section 8 voucher holders or individuals residing in Housing Works-owned properties, receive one preference point. • Employees of our Employer Partners receive two preference points. Each community has designated employers who have committed to sponsoring homes for their employees. For Simpson, our Employer Partners are Mosaic Medical, St. Charles, Mid-Oregon Credit Union, and BASX. Following the closure of the application period, all eligible applicants are assigned a random number and added to the lottery system. The lottery then categorizes applicants into tiers based on the number of preference points they have received. The highest tier consists of 4-point applicants, followed by 3-point applicants. The lottery first selects applicants with the highest number of points and then moves down the tiers based on the available number of homes. RootedHomes also establishes a waitlist of two positions per home. The housing lottery is open to everyone, and RootedHomes upholds a non-discriminatory policy with respect to race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin. At RootedHomes we were honored to be a part of this tour and to have the opportunity to bring more affordable housing opportunities to Central Oregon's workforce.
My favorite part of my job is sharing good news and meeting with local leaders and community residents at the forefront of the nation’s housing challenges - and opportunities! Today I had the honor to announce a $5M award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to the City of Bend to help lift barriers to affordable housing under HUD’s new PRO Housing grant progam. Public sector leaders, housing providers and community residents couldn’t have been more thrilled - they shut down a downtown block for the “big check” announcement, and big smiles all around! Thanks to Mayor Melanie Kebler, Mayor Pro Tem Megan Perkins, Housing Director Lynne Lloyd McConnell, and HUD Field Office Director Bryan Guiney for your hospitality and the great work you are doing to make Bend vibrant, affordable, and inclusive!
