Severe weather can cause substantial roof damage to your building in Mariner, FL, and hail can be especially devastating. A hailstorm can lead to costly problems. 📝 Understanding How Hail Can Damage Your Commercial Building Structural Damage: Your roof can sustain damage when dense ice pellets up to three inches in diameter, falling from the sky at high velocity and land on your rooftop. Damage can include: • Asphalt cracks and holes • Granule loss • Shingle detachment Hail can also damage gutters that direct water to flow off your roof and away from your building's foundation. Hail not only dislodges gutters; it can clog them, preventing them from performing the necessary function of directing water. Water Leaks: Hail that causes roof damage can lead to water penetrating and flooding your building's interior. Common indicators that your roof is compromised following a hailstorm include high humidity, the appearance of brown spots on walls and ceiling, leaking electrical fixtures on the ceiling below your roof, and visible mold. Mold spores in your building can quickly spread and cause costly damage requiring the intervention of a professional cleaning and mold remediation service. Poor Insulation: Water that enters your building through cracks and holes resulting from hail damage can compromise your building's insulation. Find out more… https://lnkd.in/eyKMnnr9

The High Cost of High Temperatures | Realtor.com® This week, Long Island is going to be HOT. Officials are warning a Heat Advisory until Tuesday and predict temperatures will be hitting the 90s. Extreme heat can significantly damage homes, with nearly a third of U.S. houses in high-risk areas, according to Realtor.com®'s 2024 climate risk study. Dehydrated soil can weaken foundations, causing cracks and sloping floors. Wood flooring and siding may contract and expand, leading to damage. Roofs suffer too, with shingles cracking or melting and tar roofs bubbling. Excessive heat can also trap hot air, leading to mold or mildew issues. How to Beat the Heat -Ensure your AC system is well-maintained by cleaning and replacing filters. -Clean the coils of outdoor condenser systems to optimize airflow. -Treat roofs with heat-protectant reflective coating. -Install continuous ventilation systems in attics. -Use proper insulation to keep homes cool. -Keep window shades down and curtains drawn. -Plant shrubs and trees to block sunlight. -Consider building a swamp cooler for cost-effective cooling. ☀️ According to the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), black surfaces in the sun can become up to 90° F hotter than the most reflective white surfaces. This constant exposure results in accelerated aging, lost flexibility, fatigue, splits and cracks and ultimately roof membrane failure. 🧊 Reflective roofing restoration systems deliver high solar reflectivity and thermal emittance which significantly reduces roof temperatures. Lower roof temperatures have been proven to decrease internal building temperatures resulting in recurring savings from lessened air conditioning needs. https://lnkd.in/gvgRRVX3

Had a thermal scan of your roof recently? Read this first! ⬇ Thermal scans (infared) have become a great tool in helping building owners understand potential moisture in their roof systems. However, it is only a tool – and must be supported with core sampling for verification. Based on this image, our client believed they had to replace the insulation over their entire roof. However, core sampling determined only 8% of the insulation was affected by moisture. 😯 Core sampling saved our client hundreds of thousands of dollars. 💰 Thermal scans test and measure temperature variances, not moisture, so false positives can be created by: • Heating or cooling equipment on roof • Ventilation under roof deck • Lighting under roof deck • Standing water on the roof • Heavy debris or ballast on a roof Bottom line: Make sure your roofing partner follows up a thermal scan with core samples! Did you know that roofs have their own unique language? Today, we're excited to share some fascinating facts about the world above your head. 1."Valley": In roofing terms, a valley refers to the intersection where two sloping roof sections meet. Proper installation and maintenance of valleys are crucial to ensure effective water runoff and prevent leaks. 2."Flashing": Flashing is a material used to protect vulnerable areas of your roof, such as chimneys, vents, and skylights, from water intrusion. It acts as a barrier, redirecting water away from critical joints and seams. 3."Ice Dam": During colder months, ice dams can form at the edges of roofs, preventing proper drainage. This can lead to water infiltration and potential damage. Adequate insulation and ventilation are key to preventing ice dams. 4."Soffit": Soffit refers to the underside of your roof's overhang. It plays a vital role in ventilation by allowing fresh air to enter the attic, preventing moisture buildup and maintaining the temperature inside your home. Why choose a metal roof for this winter? ❄️ As winter approaches, it's essential to ensure your home is prepared for harsh weather conditions. One way to do this is by investing in a metal roof. Here's why: ✅ Durability: Unlike other roofing materials, metal roofs don't become brittle in the cold. They are designed to withstand high winds, heavy snowfall, and ice. This means your roof stays looking brand new for years on end, no matter what winter throws at it. ✅ Energy Efficiency: A well-designed and installed metal roof creates an effective barrier that reduces heat loss, keeping your home warm during those chilly winter nights and helping you save on energy bills. ✅ Excellent Drainage: Snow and ice? No problem! Metal roofs shed snow and ice efficiently, preventing accumulation and potential damage. ✅ Fast Installation: Unlike some materials, metal roofs can be installed during winter. This means you won't have to wait for warmer weather to start protecting your home. Winter is coming, and there's no better time to consider a metal roof for your home. Contact us today to learn more about our services and how a metal roof can benefit you this upcoming winter season! Stay warm, and stay safe with Flying-B Construction.
