As many of us are approaching the end of the week and may already have that Friday feeling, I wanted to wrap up the week by sharing my top tips when it comes to Business Development within recruitment.
I would be lying if I said Business development was easy. You can get ignored, you can get hung up on and sometimes you get told to email and then never hear back from anyone, its nerve wrecking and its no secret that business development is a challenging task, but with the right approach and most importantly the right mindset you power through and do achieve successes.
So below are some tip tops I stand by when it comes to Business Development:
1. Don't overthink it. 🤔
Funny point coming from someone who's personality trait is to overthink everything 🫠. But seriously, just make the call, on average it takes 16 attempts to get through to who you want to, so by just making that call you might not get where you wanted but you're already a step in the right direction of getting your name out there and breaking that barrier down.
2. Follow up. 📩
Following up from a call is important to show your committed to the process, you mean business and you're not going anywhere that quickly 😉 I find taking time out of your day to go attend the clients site and take some little introduction goodies a plus as it shows you to be more personable and you just cant beat further breaking down that barrier than allowing for a face to face interaction, as it allows clients to see we are just humans after all.
3. Treat every call as a new opportunity. 🤝
Its easy to get down after a few bad calls where you feel you just aren't getting anyway and its even easier to say, "I'll just carry them on next week" but you're only just hurting yourself here. Each client deserves an approach personalised to them and its not their fault you got ignored by the first 5 calls so why would you let that show and affect your strong, positive energy from the beginning? My best advice to myself during Business Development is as simple as keep going! That number 5 call could be that one new client that has been struggling with recruitment and you've just caught them at the best time to take a new role on and build up on a great working relationship.
So, don't overthink it, do that follow up and treat every call as a new opportunity and turn those business development prospects into successes.
