🌟Reflecting on an incredible panel discussion in honor of Black History Month🌟 Last week, I had the privilege of participating in an outstanding discussion in celebration of Black History Month. The depth of insights shared during the panel was truly enlightening, and the discussions were not only meaningful but also provided applicable tools that we can implement to be better allies to our Black-American and African-American colleagues. Key takeaways that resonated with me: ✔ Advocacy for Voices: The importance of actively advocating for the voices of our Black-American and African-American colleagues. It's essential to create an environment where everyone feels heard and valued. ✔ Visibility Matters: Let's commit to ensuring our colleagues are not only heard but also seen. Recognize and celebrate their achievements, contributions, and unique perspectives. ✔ Encourage Job Development Opportunities: Providing opportunities for growth and advancement is crucial in fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. ✔ Intent vs Impact: A powerful reminder to consider the impact of our actions, beyond our intentions. Understanding and addressing the impact of our words and behaviors is key to fostering an inclusive workplace. Thank you, Shebbra E. Toussaint MBA, PMP®, Kari DavisPierce, Theresa Sheets, EdD and Diana McNeil-Brown, for leading us through such an impactful session! Let's continue to strive for progress, understanding, and solidarity as we honor Black History Month and beyond. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future. #BlackHistoryMonth #Inclusion #Allyship

FOUR REASONS WHY WE SHOULD CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH Black History Month is a time where we recognize the key roles, contributions, and sacrifices of African Americans throughout U.S. history. This month-long observance grew from an initiative by Carter G. Woodson, a brilliant and highly accomplished son of slaves, to honor the heritage and achievements of African Americans with a week-long celebration in 1926. Here are four reasons we should all, regardless of our own heritage, celebrate Black History Month, along with a few suggestions for how to celebrate: 1. IT CELEBRATES DIVERSITY Black History Month does not just promote diversity; it celebrates diversity. Promoting diversity is bringing awareness to the idea that we are all diverse and we all have something to contribute. But when we celebrate diversity, we are conveying the idea that diversity is beautiful. It tells their wonderful stories in a way that makes us realize how they have impacted our lives—how our lives would not be the same if these people did not take risks to accomplish amazing things. One way to explore and celebrate diversity: visit Dallas' own African American Museum, the only one of its kind in the Southwestern Region. 2. IT UNITES US. Celebrating diversity and recognizing its beauty brings us together. It helps us to learn about people from different cultures and backgrounds, and to understand what how we are all connected. And finding this connection unites us. Click the link below to read more: https://lnkd.in/dr5aRg5j #blackwomaninhr #womenofcolor #humanresources #diversity #equality #inclusion

Corporate JOY Strategist | Delivering high-energy programs that maximize engagement, retention, and growth for teams of working parents/caregivers… with JOY!
One of the GREATEST ways to honor #BlackHistoryMonth is to celebrate diversity, create room for #BlackJOY, and empower black history in the making. If you are an individual or organization looking to do your part in supporting #BHM, here are three simple things you can do: 1. AMPLIFY the work of black creatives, thought leaders, and entrepreneurs in your networks and social circles. A little exposure goes a long way in sharing their stories and ensuring that #blackvoices (and other differing perspectives) are represented in spaces/places where they are not often heard. 2. ASK what’s needed and how you can help! What’s needed can often be assumed — but you never know unless you have open and honest conversations. The BONUS is that these moments of shared vulnerability lead to more JOYful open communication and understanding, ultimately fostering connection and deeper relationships — at work and beyond! 3. ALIGN yourself with others who are trying to #dobetter. When it comes to the topic of race and race history, ignorance is not bliss. Speaking about the history of race (and why there even needs to be an entire month dedicated to celebrating black history) can be uncomfortable. But embracing change and transformation doesn’t have to be heavy, hard, or ugly; it CAN be done with JOY! 😉 When you align yourself with others willing to learn differently and embrace this DEI work from a position of JOY and understanding, it creates a different experience. This approach makes space for curating a VISION that includes generational healing, alignment, equity, and peace in how we ALL move forward. This is how we can change the world ...ONE feel-good thing at a time! Like these tips? Nancy-Clare our newest SPE Aberdeen D&I Committee Member has reflected on this month's Black History Month and speaks candidly: 'As the Month of October comes to an end, it is time for me to reflect on what celebrating UK Black History Month has meant to me. Black History Month is simply an appreciation, a celebration of the contributions of African and Caribbean historical heroes to Western society. It is celebrated in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany, to name just these few. The stories of Black British historical heroes are often forgotten. Black History Month was introduced in the 1980s to highlight the unique experiences of the Afro Caribbean population in the UK and differentiate them from US Black history. As I did my research, I came across some really interesting facts – did you know that the very first Black Mayor of a London borough was elected in 1913? Look him up, his name was John Richard Archer. Diversity is the future. Many UK employers have increased their D&I focus and the logic behind that is rather simple: if you are operating in an ethnically diverse environment, then a diverse workforce will help market your business more effectively to different ethnic and racial backgrounds. It is that diversity of thought and perspective that fosters creativity and leads to innovative solutions. These in turn would make most companies more competitive and successful, so everybody wins right? Allyship is key! This one is very personal, as throughout my 10-year long career in the Energy industry, I crossed paths with several colleagues and senior managers who spoke up on my behalf even when I did not realize that I needed them to. Allies play a crucial role in promoting a sense of belonging and inclusion for individuals from marginalized groups. They stand up for what is right and knowing someone has your back makes all the difference in the world. We need more representation To put it bluntly, we need to see more role models that look like us. We need those who have led successful careers to come forward and tell us their stories, so we can identify with their challenges, journeys, and victories. That is what will fuel the next generation. By shying away from the spotlight, we would be doing a disservice to the cause, to our own communities. I would like to give a Special shout out to the following people for the visible impact they are making: Ibim Diri of AFBE-UK and Elizabeth MacAlpine of SPE Aberdeen for being wonderful allies to Women and Ethnic Minorities in our industry within the UK, Harish Maliekkal and Hassan Alemi from SLB for being the perfect example of why a diverse workforce creates an inclusive environment, I love hearing your personal stories in the office and you have created a safe space for me without knowing and Taya Alfred and Mervin Azeta from SLB for being the leading figures that young black women need to see. 🌟 Celebrating Black History Month: Empowering Change for a Brighter Future! 🌟 At Citizens Advice, we believe in the power of empathy, inclusivity, and allyship. This Black History Month, we want to shed light on a crucial issue: the persistent disparity in poverty rates among ethnic minority groups compared to the white ethnic group. 📊 For far too long, these disparities have marred our society, but as an organisation, we are committed to recognising these inequalities and taking meaningful action to make a difference. 🤝 🌍 We are dedicated to providing a culturally aware service that addresses the unique challenges faced by individuals from diverse backgrounds. 🤝 We are actively working towards greater diversity within our volunteer staff, management teams, and trustees. We believe that diversity brings strength, creativity, and a richer perspective to our organisation. 🌈 We are striving to create an environment that is not only representative but also a fair, open, and equitable place to work for everyone, irrespective of their background. 🤗 Our commitment to allyship extends beyond mere words—it's about taking action and fostering a community where every voice is heard and valued. 🌟 This Black History Month, let's unite in our mission to promote justice and equality for all. EI Strategist. TEDx Speaker. I help organizations create an emotionally intelligent and inclusive culture. | Emotional Intelligence | Self-Awareness | Resilience | Embracing Change |Workplace Culture
Happy Saturday! As we celebrate Black History Month, let's reflect on the profound words of Barack Obama, our first African American president: "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." This sentiment is a powerful reminder of the individual and collective responsibility we bear in fostering Emotional Intelligence (EI), inclusivity, and making every moment count towards meaningful progress. It challenges us to not only commemorate the achievements of the past but to actively shape a more equitable future. On this thoughtful Saturday, let's contemplate how we can apply this philosophy in our daily lives and workplaces. Embracing EI and inclusivity isn't just about recognizing diversity but actively participating in the creation of spaces where every voice is heard and valued. As we honor the legacies and struggles that have paved the way for today's opportunities, remember that the journey towards equality and understanding requires our ongoing effort and empathy. Let's be the change we seek, not just during Black History Month but every day, and drive forward the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity in all that we do. #emotionalintelligence #blackhistorymonth #inclusivity #saturdayvibes

This February, as we commemorate Black History Month, we celebrate the rich tapestry of contributions made by black individuals throughout history. It's a time to honor their resilience, innovation, and profound impact on shaping our world. But our commitment to diversity and inclusion extends far beyond a single month. It's a year-round journey that requires active engagement and unwavering dedication. I firmly believe that diversity is not just a moral imperative, but a strategic advantage. Now more than ever, we must reaffirm our commitment to fostering inclusive workplaces where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to the table. It's not enough to pay lip service to diversity; we must take tangible actions to effect real change. I pledge to play my part by: 🤝 Promoting equitable opportunities for all. 🎓 Investing my time and energy in education and development programs that empower underrepresented groups. 👥 Creating a culture of belonging where diverse perspectives are not only welcomed but actively sought out. 🌱 Cultivating mentorship and sponsorship initiatives to support the next generation of diverse leaders. Together, let's turn words into action and build a future where diversity is not just celebrated, but embraced as the cornerstone of our success. Join me in this journey towards a more inclusive tomorrow. #BlackHistoryMonth #DiversityandInclusion #InclusiveLeadership #Empowerment #Equality #ChangeMakers
