When it comes to hiring, the best companies focus on making the right decisions—and they do that by using the right processes. Here are some tips for making sure you're doing both: 1. Be clear about what you're looking for in candidates. Are you looking for someone with experience in a specific field? Someone who has worked in your industry before? Someone who fits your company's culture? Know what matters most to you and make sure all of your hiring managers and recruiters are on board with that. 2. Set clear expectations for how long it should take someone to get through each step of the process. You don't want to lose good candidates because they get discouraged by waiting too long! 3. Make sure everyone involved in the hiring process knows what they need to do and when they need to do it—and that they take ownership of their role in making sure everything goes smoothly. Hiring processes. My son has been trying to apply for a new position. Ok, that's not exactly uncommon. But. Some organisations application processes are clearly created by (and for) the HR departments. No thought to the candidates (the customers) or the hiring managers. Good morning recruiters i just wanted to to highlight something to you and to hiring managers. it is unprofessional to decline a candidate because they are nervous. In fact, as a recruiter, it's your main job to "break the ice" and make the candidate feel comfortable. This will help you get to know them better. It's not in your best interest to stress out the candidate because you want to see their true self, and you won't see that if they're tense. When hiring for your own People team, a few things to consider: 1. What YOUR experience as a job-seeker was like 2 years, 5 years, 15 years ago... isn't worth bringing up. I see a lot of People Hiring Leaders struggling with "well, this is easier than what I went through!" and stuck in feeling like candidates TODAY should suffer for what they went through in the past... (this isn't healthy...) 2. You may hire for something different than you anticipated. The title. The role itself. The level. Sometimes the stubbornness of "I have to find THIS" limits you from what the team and organization actually NEEDS. Talk to employees. Stay interviews. Get to know what is realllyyyy needed. 3. Be ready to hire. Don't start and stop. Don't rush to slow down. Don't do it until you have the time and energy. It harms candidate experience, employer brand, risks TA burn-out and more if you aren't ready to go full steam ahead once you've made the decision to hire. See if these help!
