Exploring and working on new things

Happy July 4th everyone. It took me 4,630 days from arriving in the US to becoming a citizen. I became a citizen last year. There were lots of steps to get to this point. F-1 -> OPT -> OPT cap gap -> H-1B -> O-1A -> EB-1A -> EAD -> Citizenship - Arrived in the US on an F-1 visa - Worked on OPT for 3 years - Worked on OPT Cap Gap for 6 months - Worked on H-1B for 2 years - Started Stilt - Accepted into Y Combinator - Applied for O-1 (received approval within 4 days of application) - Applied for Green Card with EB-1A (received approval in 2 weeks) - Received EAD 2 weeks after my green card approval - Received my Green Card - After 5 years on Green Card, applied for citizenship - Received my citizenship in May 2023 Moving to the US as an international student with a large student loan, my goal was to get a job to stay in the US and pay off the high interest rate student loan. The hard work paid off in more ways than I imagined and I got a lot more than expected (or deserved). Started Stilt, got into Y Combinator, raised $375M in equity and debt to build the company, and sold the company to JG Wentworth. I’m not sure if this would have been possible in any other country in the world. It doesn’t evade me that I’ve also been incredibly lucky. If you asked the person who moved to the US about 13 years ago about how life would be, I wouldn’t have imagined it in my wildest dreams. It’s been a long journey but it was worth it. Here’s to the next decade.

Congrats my friend!!

Congratulations Rohit. You are an inspiration. Very well deserved. Though, everyone’s journey is different, getting Citizenship of another country is never easy. I’ll also be applying for Canadian Citizenship next year, fingers crossed.

Amazing story Rohit. Thanks a lot for sharing! I was curious to know what was the journey from O-1 to EB1-A like? How much time did it take? Thanks again! All the best for your next decade!
