Here's why Steve Jobs got a new identical Porsche every 6 months for decades. Steve Jobs was worth over $10 billion at the time of his death in 2011. The tech mogul wasn’t pompous when it came to money, even though he had plenty. But, there’s one thing he spent money on and that was his daily driver. For the longest time, Steve Jobs leased a brand-new black Porsche 911 every six months. Years later, he switched cars and replaced his Porsche 911 with a Mercedes-Benz SL 55. However, in both instances, the car would be replaced with an identical one every six months. This is because Steve Jobs didn’t want to be identified by the number plate on his car. The state of California, at one point, did not require new vehicles to have a license plate for up to six months. California changed the law a few years ago but for a very long time, you were allowed to buy a new car and drive it plate-free and replace it once a year. And that’s what Jobs did. Tesla has released new the refreshed Model 3 WITHOUT A PRICE INCREASE, possibly due to the removal of federal tax credits post-Dec. 31. This is not a post about cars. Well, it sort of is. Over the weekend I visited the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville. There are 130 unusual vehicles on display, part of a collection of over 400. Some are one-of-a-kind. After seeing all the different shapes, sizes, number of wheels, fuel/propulsion sources, etc. I figured they were mostly mock-ups. But almost all actually run. In a welcome video, the owner describes his passion for collecting vehicles from around the world. He says he loves the idea that there are so many ways to do the same thing: transport people. There are so many ways to do the same thing. For someone who spent most of her life trying to figure out the one “right” way to do everything, this hit home. Your way is just as right as anyone else’s. Be as courageous as the person who created a hinged vehicle in the 1950s in one of the first efforts to increase crash safety.
