Congratulations to the FTI Purchasing Team! After four months of teamwork and group study, they have all passed the Association of Supply Chain Management (ASCM) Supply Chain Procurement Certificate Program. The Supply Chain Procurement Certificate program is a foundational education program designed to help both entry-level and experienced supply chain professionals expand their procurement knowledge and skills. The program provides an overview of procurement fundamentals, sourcing strategies, supplier relationship management, negotiations, evaluation metrics, and more. With this certification, the FTI Purchasing team has a common language to talk about purchasing issues and is poised to review supplier and internal procurement organization performance, trace the full arc of purchase order flow, and engage in sustainable and ethical sourcing.

I am happy to share that I’ve completed the ASCM Supply Chain Procurement certificate! This journey has fortified my understanding of tactical purchasing vs. strategic sourcing. It was also great to learn more about the different sourcing strategies, supplier assessment and selection, various negotiation tactics, among other topics. Big thanks to Jeffrey Gonzalez for steering me towards this certificate and being available to discuss some of the main points, key takeaways and real-world applications. It’s great to see the procurement function gaining more recognition today, not only as a cost center activity, but truly as a value enhancing function which should have strategic alignment with the company's goals. #Procurement #ASCM

Next week, we're returning to the first CIPS - The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Level 4 module, L4M1. One key lesson is why procurement is increasingly important in today's business world, particularly due to changes in the cost base structure of many organisations. This shift is driven by: 🔵 Increased Outsourcing: Organisations outsource more to focus on core competencies, raising third-party costs 🔵 Globalisation: The need for complex procurement strategies grows with global market expansion 🔵 Technological Advances: Reduced manual and manufacturing processes lead to greater dependence on external suppliers from a reduced internal workforce However, when teaching this area we reinforce that the above does not apply to every corner of the globe, for example outsourcing will increase the workforce in many organisations providing the outsourced service. While these trends highlight the general direction of procurement's increasing importance, it's crucial to recognise the varying effects they have across different regions and industries. By understanding both the overarching patterns and the specific exceptions, procurement professionals can better adapt and respond to the dynamic challenges and opportunities in the global market. Procurement has really been changing for many decades now, I wonder what is coming next? 😀
