I HIT SUBMIT!!! 🌟 After weeks of rigorous planning, countless revisions, and that final adrenaline-pumping push, hitting "submit" on a big preconstruction effort is an exhilarating moment. But do we take the time to reflect and learn from each journey? Like reaching the summit of a challenging climb, taking in the view and understanding our path can provide invaluable insights for future projects. #Preconstruction #Construction #ProjectManagement #ContinuousImprovement #ReflectAndGrow

Working towards a project deadline is like riding a roller coaster of mixed feelings. At the start, it's exciting and motivating. You tackle tasks, overcome challenges, and celebrate small wins. Yet, as the deadline gets closer, a bitter undertone creeps in. The pressure builds up, and time becomes a constant reminder that the journey is ending. Completing the project brings a sense of accomplishment, but it's tinged with the awareness that the deadline is looming. In the end, the bittersweet experience of meeting a project deadline is a blend of highs and lows, a journey where the thrill of success is intertwined with the acknowledgment that deadlines, like all things, come to an end. I just finalized the case study report "MSP for spatial protection", a part of the learning strand "Ecosystem-Based Approach" in the eMSP NBSR Project. Planning is hard. When handling a project, we often tend to dig deep into the details, meticulously planning every step, and that often tricks us. Even visualization of the “worst case” still isn’t enough to counteract our optimism — we don’t consider enough “Murphyness”. However, there's another way to approach it: the outside view. Instead of getting lost in the intricacies, consider looking at how similar projects have performed historically. The outside view (see Kahnemann’s paper about reference class) is when you deliberately avoid thinking about the special, unique features of this project, and just consider how long it took to finish broadly similar projects in the past. This is counterintuitive, since the inside view has so much more detail. Furthermore, you’ll probably get back an answer that sounds long and expensive. This answer is likely true. #TechConsulting #ProjectPlanning #OutsideVsInsideView
