Kim Dang recently became the first woman CEO of Kinder Morgan, Inc., one of the world’s largest midstream companies. With more than two decades of deep-rooted experience in the energy sector, Dang represents both continuity and change for the Houston-based pipeline giant, which was founded in 1997.
Navigating the midstream industry's turbulent waters, Dang emphasizes a balanced approach: addressing today's urgent energy demands while laying a resilient foundation for a sustainable future. Her assertion, "We're going to turn the ship, but we're going to turn it slowly," encapsulates the industry's broader challenge -- achieving growth while diversifying the portfolio of energy services and offerings.
Such leadership transitions are emblematic of the sector's evolving priorities. Industry insiders and professionals are keenly watching as Kinder Morgan steers its course. The company's trajectory offers insights and, potentially, a roadmap for other industry players grappling with similar challenges.

As we come to the end of Black History Month, we're highlighting how diversity fuels innovation and drives growth at Terrasmart. Studies show that diverse teams were more innovative and had 19% higher revenues than less diverse peer companies.
But diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are more than metrics; they are about creating an environment where every employee feels valued, respected, and heard. It's about building a renewable energy workforce that reflects the vibrant diversity of our community.
Read our latest blog featuring guest speaker Rodney McCord, former Mayor of Griffin, Georgia, as he spoke to Terrasasmart's team about creating a safe space for all in the workplace. One of Rodney's key takeaways was "To be a leader, be intentional, and be okay with agreeing to disagree. Be willing to grow and be respectful of all humans.” https://buff.ly/3T5IRFU#BlackHistoryMonth#DEIB#DiversityInRenewableEnergy#Terrasmart#Solar#PoweringProgress#SolarEnergy
Nathan Ott, Chief Polisher at The GC Index, has joined GC Partners HireHigher and Portman Partners, as part of the Hirehigher's Rising Star Programme to talk to 60 sixth form students about their impact and contribution potential for the future.
In the Impact Assessment Workshop they have had a taster of The Young People Index, the language of impact and how they can best use their energy to make their best impact and contribution moving forwards.
The Young People Index® (The YPI) is an online assessment tool which prepares young people for success.
Used by education professionals and youth organisations, it helps identify and nurture the impact young people will make now and in the future. The results from the assessment empowers young people by highlighting their unique impact in terms of how they can best contribute to a team, organisation, project or role, boosting confidence and self-awareness.
By taking the assessment, we can see a young person’s natural motivations and preferences when working in a team. This instantly raises self-awareness and confidence in knowing their strengths and how they best make a contribution.
David Chukwu & Ali Sadiq talk to Abner Sesay about his experience of The Young People Index and how it has helped clarify his future and build confidence and self esteem.

...and now with the WHY?
Why is awareness valuable to our development?
“Self-awareness is at the heart of growth”.
Self-Awareness is being conscious of your own areas of development. We all have blind spots, however experienced or inexperienced we may feel. The question is how to we check in with our blind spots and bring these to the fore front of our mind?
Being aware of what we don’t know may hamper our self-development as we become ignorant and blissfully unaware of our own development points.
I have found developing my self- awareness, where I have sought to identify these “blind spots” develop my knowledge and areas for development which goes a way to unlock your true potential.

...and now with the HOW?
“Because how do you grow if you are not in your own awareness?”
How does it play out for you in your life?
There are many ways you can do this and your individual business may monitor this through appraisals, the KPIs and through seeking 360 feedback from colleagues.
There are a number of things that may be helpful in identifying your own blind spots;
· Have your profile done- (DISC/Myers Briggs)
