February is Black History Month! Did you know that in the United States, people of color have long been disproportionately represented among those experiencing homelessness? According to the 2023 Point-in-Time count, in Dallas and Collin Counties, Black individuals make up 60% of the population of our unhoused neighbors while being only 20% of the overall population. Housing Forward in collaboration with the All Neighbors Coalition is focused on reducing homelessness by bringing partners together around effective solutions and advancing racial equity throughout the entire rehousing system. If you want to learn more about the connections between race and homelessness in the United States, view this brief timeline that lays out its history: https://lnkd.in/eYDfB5c #Blackhistorymonth #Endhomelessness #HousingForward

Addressing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is crucial in our work, especially considering the systemic barriers faced by the populations we serve, primarily Medicaid clients and North Little Rock public schools. These families confront generational trauma, poverty, racism, and high incarceration rates, which contribute to a high occurrence of ACEs among children. 🌟 Explore the trauma-informed care in educational settings. 👉 Follow us to learn more and be part of the conversation on promoting resilience and support for children affected by ACEs. Let's prioritize trauma-informed care to create nurturing environments for all children to thrive. #TraumaInformedEducation

Be A Love Warrior! Marginalized communities are more likely to experience poverty, lack of affordable housing, and discrimination in the housing market, pushing them into homelessness at higher rates. Addressing the root causes of racial disparities in homelessness requires that we embrace solutions that center Radical Love. The Supreme Court decision will lead to further stigmatization and violence on our unhoused neighbors. Embracing and protecting Radical Love is imperative. Be A Love Warrior! https://lnkd.in/gqCH4Kh4

Johnson v. Grants Pass: A landmark case challenging the legality of penalizing people for being homeless. No one should be punished for not having a place to sleep. Let's advocate for housing, not handcuffs. A Way Home America stands in solidarity with those who experience houselessness/homelessness and are therefore unsheltered. Our work with the New Deal (www.AWayHomeAmerica.info) is a roadmap to ending homelessness for Black, Indigenous, youth of color, and LGBTQIA+ youth, on a path to housing justice for all. Of our 5 pillars of the New Deal, two of them are Housing Justice & Transformative Justice. The Grants Pass v. Johnson case has a MAJOR impact on housing justice and transformation, as it could be enforced to effectively criminalize someone for sleeping outside on public property, when they have nowhere else to go. Addressing the vulnerability of many homeless youth to human trafficking is crucial for building a brighter future for them. With approximately 4.2 million children aged 13 to 25 experiencing houselessness, this group faces a heightened risk of falling prey to trafficking rings due to financial struggles hindering their access to housing. Here's how you can make a difference: - Spread Awareness: Share this post to enlighten your friends and family about the concerning link between homelessness and human trafficking. - Support Local Organizations: Extend a helping hand by contributing to or volunteering with organizations dedicated to providing shelter, resources, and rehabilitation for houseless youth. Every contribution, big or small, makes a significant impact. - Advocate for Change: Use your voice to advocate for policy changes. Encourage your local representatives to prioritize funding for programs addressing both homelessness and human trafficking. - Be Vigilant: Take an active role in your community's safety. If you notice anything suspicious, don't hesitate to report it to local authorities or anti-trafficking hotlines. Let's work together to break the chains and offer every youth the opportunities they deserve!
